Got a pipercross viper IK, worth keeping?

  172 Race Car
My ph1 172 had a viper kit on it when i bought it. but ive also got (coming the weekend hopefully) a standard ph1 172 airbox with itg filter.

I wondering what setup is the best.

Anyone have an opinion?

I've been told the Viper is on the small side and it gets mixed reviews. I replaced mine with a HillPower and it felt better. The Ph 1 airbox looks pretty much like a Maxogen in design, and gets good reviews on here.

I was planing on getting a cup racer style airbox at some stage, bit if the viper is upto the job then i wont. Im moving the battery to make space for whatever i end up with

Never used the Viper but I know Alan hated it and prefered a ph2 box over it so by that logic Id go for the ph1. Ive got the itg in mine and it does the job

Hence the only real reason why folk fit them but the OE aint no Maxogen i can tell you that much :rasp:

Just a idea but anyone ever thought the reason why some folk felt they lost power with a Viper was because it was good at what it does (ie better air flow) that it caused you to lean off which in turn looses power??

Had mine mapped with zorst and Viper and thier was miles more of a pull than the OE air box

Before i bought my cup, gaz had a viper on it, and when we were working on it one day we noticed there was s**t in the throttle body, so imo there s**t! it was obviously letting fine stig particles through!

Proves it was flowing well ;)

Seriously, how do you think a performance filter gets its gain? A) less filted restriction mainly

Still no clearer.

I know to get the best i will need a remap. Thats a job for later. sticking with the oe box for now anyway, just not sure if i should sell the viper to get some pennies or keep it for future use...............
