a friend of mine googled it and got a hit from carsurvey.org
"HI, I have owned a clio 1.2 16v 52 reg for about a year now and have been very happy with the car apart from...
I have a rattle from the sunroof this is due to the poor design of the handle.
2. it was miss firing after about 2 months of driving this was cured by a new set off sparkplugs.
I have recently had a problem of the orange light with the 2 coils and a graph lighting on the dashboard when I dip the clutch and the engine is at idle speed. Don't let renault tell you it's a tdc sensor or coil packk its not, all that's wrong with it is water vapour has got on to the air flow meter through the air intake (maybe running the car in the car wash etc...) being a hands on type of bloke I took off the air box and intake manifold pipes and cleaned it all with WD40 and re-assembled. started the car never had any more trouble with it since. I would just like to point out, at the back of the engine there is a black metal box that's supposed to be tamper proof this rattles off after 15000 miles and rubs the wires to bear metal and causes majour e.c.u fault just check ures for this. apart from that the cars great very nippy and looks miles better than a corsa."
So i'll try that.
