GOT PULLED BY THE OLD BILL!

  CLIO 172 EXCLUSIVE
Driving to work this morning i pulled up along side an OB Volvo. I drove past him and he dropped in behind me just as i went up slip road to M1. Obviously took it nice and slow, joined M1 with him still sat behind me. About 1/2 a mile later on came the lights!! Obviously wasnt speeding so wasnt sure what prob was. Passenger jumped out and asked me to get in back of Volvo. He asks for docs, i only had licence. Goes through usual questions, then ask do i know its and offence to drive uninsured? Yes i do know i tell him. So he then asks why im driving uninsured!! Begin to worry now, bloody certain im insured but he tells me im not on national register! I tell him im with More Than and policy started in July. He then says he'll have to contact insurer cos the computer it say no! He gets number and rings, gets some Indian call centre! They refuse to speak to him and ask to speak to me. I go through all my details very slowly as bloke on line doesnt quite grasp Yorkshire accent. Eventually he ask for OB again and tells them im insured.

For a few mins i was shitting it, almost convinced myself id screwed up insurance some how and was gunna end up with a fine, points or even a crushed Clio.

crap insurance company to blame there i think. out of interest is this the first time you've been pulled by the fuzz?

i've only ever been pulled once in my old Pug 206 for speeding. he let me off with a producer and a warning.

The data will never be 100% correct. You're just one of the unlucky ones. They're just doing their job, I'd be happy to be pulled over for that in the knowledge that someone without insurance will be pulled to and taken off the road.

Why Police rely on some crappy antique database which gets updated less frequently than Renault release a new Megane I'll never know.

Did you spot any doughnuts or fast food in the car?

I got pulled over a while back for a similar instance but the copper just gave me a producer saying "they musnt have updated the system yet" and asked me to hand them in.He must have had it in for you mate to go through all the trouble of phoning the insurance company. What happens if you cant remember the name of your insurance company???.

To be fair OB were really nice and helpful, no hassle at all. Id rather uninured drivers were off the road so no complaints from me.

same happened to me 2 days after i got my 172. got pulled going past a big operation they were doing catching lots on uninsured drivers and unroadworthy vehicles. Only had my insurance for days so obviously it wasnt on the register yet so showed him my printout of the details he radio'd through and was all good. Good on them I say the less uninsured pricks there are on the road the better for me and my premium!

the problem is some insurers aren't or weren't on the register. so you can be insured but the computer says your not. fortunately most police officers know this and will look into it deeper than doing you there and then for no insurance. because it is actually an offence to not have your documents with you at all times while driving, but people rarely do, and you'd have to have a very annoying cop to actually arrest you for it!

:O i thought you didn't have to have them on you, but had to be able to produce them within 14 days or something?? Leaving them in your car is just asking for trouble, with things like identity theft etc, also if someone stole your keys, gets in your car, and finds your home address, your not home... not good. If it is correct that you are supposed to have them, i would not be impressed!!!

i had that when i got done for speeding, had just put a private plate on so messed up the databases, i've never been so scared in my life!!

copper wasn't even too fussed about it though!

Nice to see he just assumed you had no insurance and just didn't actually say it's not on the db so we'll have to double check it.

There's a shed load of Eastern Europeon without insurance near me and they are defo not insured, police won't pull them over though cause it's too much hassle for them, hm.

The day after i bought my Saxo i got pulled while taking my sister and 3 of her fiiiiit mates to town, register hadnt updated - said it was on a forecourt in Donny! Think he really just wanted a look at my passengers!

My mates mum works for rd safety people, and about 3 months ago they were doing a crack down on something or other, and i got pulled. Usual producer, all ok. Then i got pulled the next night, then 2 nights after that!! I had 3 producers to take to the police station! She said it was because once you've been pulled, when the OB drive past you, you flag up on that screen thingy, so they pull you again?!!?

When someone smashed into my black 172, i got cautioned by the side of the road for not having my documents on me. She said dont worry about it, they have to do it apparently because it is an offence not to have your docs! So when the car gets nicked, the thief has no problem being you apprently, and gets to drive off!

all insurance companies must update the national database with policy details but this can take a few days and monday-friday 9am-5pm there is a insurance helpline as a further double check.

if both of those show no insurance and you dont have it on you then the car can be seized under sec 165 of the road traffic act, this will be towed to a local compound and relased to you when you provide proof of insurance the cost is something like 100 quid (all that money is for the removal company and storgae fees its not run by the police or get any money from it). if you have insurance but your company havnt passed those details onto the database i would chase them up for costs as its not your fault.

if they show no insurance but pass the attitude test and can give you company name, policy date taken etc can tell you how much they pay if you believe them a producer can be given but thats at cops discretion, imagine if a car is pulled over and shows no insurance, cop lets them go and later that night they have an accident or run someone ever and make off etc etc it would be horrible and uninsured cars need taking off the road, if everynow and then people who are legit get stopped because their insuarnce company havnt done their job so be it, as long as cops dont bust your balls i would be happy to get stopped.
