GPS - Can I take TomTom etc on an airplane?

I'm flying with Easyjet next week and am planning on buying a GPS sat nav thing to use as I need to be driving all over London by myself.

Will they let me take one in my hand luggage? I've tried googling it with no luck!

Also any suggestions on such a device?

I'd ideally like sat nav, plus a database of all fixed and non fixed speed cameras.

GPS equipment is fine, infact fire it up while your crusing its quite funny. 400mph+ and the gps status goes mental
Phones in flight mode are still banned!

people were scared of radio interfearance with the systems.

Its been tested to be fine though. The new Boeing 787 was infact going to use radio communications from the offset.

The aircraft manurfaturers have had the systems enabled for years just the airlines don't realy want them plus FAA han't agrred its safe.

hate people that don't turn there phones off on planes. its only a f**king phone you can live without it for however long the flight is. Maybe they are safe to use, but they tell you to turn them off not just for your own safety but for others. These days people only think about themselves

i was more referring to the fact that they allow laptops on whilst in the air which im sure emit more electrical activity than a phone in flight mode. These days phones are more like PDAs/MP3 players etc and I think they should be allowed to be kept on.

if it was while landing,taking off or if the seat belt signs are on they can.

I've also twice taken a GPS in my hand luggage. Never had any problems at security desk. Only trouble is, on both occasions I could not pick up a satellite during flight. Maybe this was down to my device rather than problems caused by the plane itself. I take my GPS abroad to use with tomtom on my mobile to navigate on foot.

Last two flights I've been on with easyJet including one yesterday from Paris, CDG, they announce to "turn off phone, if your phone has flight mode then please activate this now". I honestly don't think people care about switching their phones off. I think most people put it on silent. I've always turned mine off or used flight mode. Last night my flight was 30 mins early so I thought, what the heck, I'll text my lasses brother to pick us up early. I honestly thought I'd get some sort of signal, even at 20,000 feet. Couldn't get any at all. The only reception I got, suddenly, was when we were about to touch down. So personally, I won't be doing this again (just for fear of getting caught more than anything).
