GPS speed camera alert , £59.99 in Aldi soon

  Audi S3 225
i bought one from ebay a few months ago, its very good and works well, for the price u cant beat it. Hasnt missed 1 camera yet, plus it warns u of possible mobile camera locations, also displays ur speed via gps, and loads of other stuff, def recommend one, the lite is a good buy the normal isnt really worth it, loads of pointless features u wont use or need.

plus on the talex website they are still 90 quid http://www.talex.co.uk/buyonline/default.asp

thanks bud, I'll have top go look at that. I gotta say aldi is brilliant for stuff like this, i got all kinds of stuff from there, and havent been let down by the price or quality!

I'm sure someone on here runs one of these... think they were even cheaper in somerfield at one point but they've sold out! :dapprove:

Do you have to go instore to buy these or can you order online?

^ lol, don't want to risk been seen in Aldi! lol, to be fair for alcohol and the odd electrical bargain it is half decent.

By the way, this speed cam detector, is it run off the ciggy lighter?

yeah, believe it is run off the lighter.

I think the things you need to check are:
Is there a USB cable or Serial cable in the box? (USB cable is extra)
and
Are you happy to stick it to your dashboard or do you want to pay £20-odd to get a stick on arm thing?

Hmmm the website says £34.99 subscription for the first 12 months to keep it updated. Would you not be better buying a cheap sat nav and fixing it with something from pocket gps world? Sommerfield were doing the i3 for £99.99 not so long ago and I think you can get that to alert you to cammeras.

^^^^ WOW ! Good contribution to the thread ..................

NOT :rasp:

  HyperAlloy Combat Chassis
Sorry, didn't mean to offend :S I'm just saying you have to factor in the subscription costs as well.

And I've had a look around and I can't see the i3 for 99.99 anywhere now. So I would say it is a good deal :rasp:

Those will fly out of Aldi when they go on sale. I work in Lidl's and good stuff literally sells out as soon as we open the doors @ 8am in the morning!

The manufacturer's site says it comes with 6 month subscription. So unless this is a special budget version, should have that.

  Audi S3 225
u can pay for 1 years subscription, meaning you can update to the latest camera locations for a year, but the unit is fine without them anyway.

i know id rather have this unit for 60 quid than have 3 points on my license and a fine!!!

They were selling in somerfield/kwik save for £29.99 but all the ebayers bought them up and sold them on for about £45-£65.
I got one off e-bay for £45 a few months ago,as Jonesy says mine also hasn't missed a camera yet so well worth the money imo

Yeah that was me who posted the Somerfield thread several months ago. I still use the Talex Lite and it is excellent. The database is very accurate and new temp sites are updated very quickly. I've owned several gps camera systems and some of those cost over £400, I can honestly say the Talex is every bit as good and far better value.

  172
Hiya everyone, this may be a stupid question, lol, but do they work ok through the 172 heat reflective front screens? Cheers, Chris.

They need to be positioned directly below the rectangular clear area of the windscreen in order to receive sat lock.

I wasn't gonna get one when i posted the link , think i might have changed my mind now , lol.

^ I know, I'm the same, wasn't going to but now think I might get one, try it out, if I like it, have a go at hardwiring to the back of the cig lighter, if not keen, sell on ebay.

they really are a brilliant unit. they dont look as good as a road angel, but for me they work faster and have a clearer audible warning.

also the detector tells you what the speed of the area is, so you know exactly what to slow down to when a camera is coming.

can't reccomend them enough.

^^^^ Nice one ! Thats definitely convinced me. A trip to Aldi me thinks :)

It is definately worth the money. I paid for the annual subscription too and cannot be happier with the service. Far better than my old Origin B2, RA Compact, Snooper's and Micro Roadpilot.

heres where i installed mine, i have a mk1 172 ran the wire under the dash, to keep it tidy.

Is that the magnetic thing Jonesy? If so does that come with it? I'm gonna stick my on the side of the plastic centre bit, where the gear stick and cig lighter is, but so it is pointing up. Don't really want it on the dash and if it bleeps to alert you then thats fine for me, if I don't know the speed I should be at I can have a quick glance down.

was having a look at this rectangular area & the windscreen wipers are right in front of it ,guess this doesnt hinder it from working ??

Ah feck yeah! Was thinking it had a seperate reciever for some reason!? D'oh. Well I'm gonna set my alarm clock as apparently when there is good deals on at the Aldi here people queue before opening! :dead:
Think it opens at 9, I'll aim to get there for then or just after.
By the way, will there be any issues with the windscreen in a Mk2 Ph1, as far as I know it isn't heat reflective or whatever.

  Audi S3 225
ive never had any problems, but my windscreen is a standard one, the gps sensor comes with it, it just sticks down and the talex sits ontop by the magnet, can move it around etc, i dont mind it being on the dash and the sensor should come off pretty easy if i wanted it off.

So has anyone got one yet? I was considering it but a) I have no money (as usual), b) I wouldn't really have that much reason to use it as I can't afford petrol so rarely go anywhere that is new and unknown, so I usually know where the cameras are, and c) that nice young man Mitch has lent me his tomtom for my cornwall trip

Just been and got it at 9 this morning! :dead:

Seriously though it's fantastic. Been plying with it for about 45 mins testing it out at different cameras and putting it in different parts of the car! It works anywhere! It picked up the local mobile speed gun site too. Very impressed so far. Oh and it's much smaller than I was expecting too.

Only thing is I can't decide where to put it from now on. I tried all different places for it with blue tack. I want it somewhere that I can leave it nearly all the time so as out of view as possible. It's either gonna be, side of the steering wheel column (Behind indicator), On top of steering wheel column (infront of dials, but on show a bit much there I reckon) or down on the side of the centre console in between passenger seat and hazard light button (mk2 Ph1, not far from where the seat belt clips in), and yes, it does work there!

You might be lucky to get one now though. It was like a car boot sale! The Aldi here opened at 9 I think, I got there about 5 past, and there was people walking round in Aldi clutching onto them!! I was thinking s**t, hope there's some left, then I couldn't find them for minute and when I did there was about 6 of them left! Deffo worth a try though IMO.
