Great games you just dont like...?

  UR R26R.5, VW Golf R
Are there any awesome games that just dont float your boat but seem to have everyone else raving about them?
For me, and thinking of new generation stuff, its the Halo series and unfortunately Project Gotham Racing 3 :(
Halo, never EVER got into it. Dont know if it was because its all Sci-Fi etc, I mean, I loved Duke Nukem et al, but just couldnt get the hang of Halo. Possibly a control issue coming from the Playstation.
Project Gotham. Ahh, I want to like it, but its just not realistic enough. The cars are ALWAYS spick span and in showroom condition. Its a marvel that the XB360 can showcase graphics like this, but I want damage and dirt, not mirror shine images all the time. I think it takes the edge of it to be honest, and now I just get irritated with it. Think it will be going up for sale soon, which is a shame as its a good game overall.

Quake on PC. Nope, didnt get into that. All that Medieval b****cks. Not for me, which is also why I'm kinda stalling on Oblivion too.

Opinions on your own fantastic yet poor games?

I know what your saying about Halo and PGR3 and I do agree. However, I have always found the Quake series fantastic!

I would say for me it would have to be warcraft 3 and Black and White.

I was an original xbox hater, so much so I vowed I'd never own one even if I was paid to have one lol. Then one day me and my mate played the demo of the original halo on the 'silent cartographer' an hour later the guy in hmv told us to get off it as we were hogging it. Lol I'd never been so hooked on a game so quickly, I bought an xbox and halo there and then lol.

  ST on the way...
Project Gotham on the 360.

Such a fantastic game, sound wise and graphic wise but the control of the vehicles is apalling that stick is absolutely bloody useless and spoils an excellent game.

Gran Turismo series - If i want realism i'll go on a friggin track day.

Pro Evo/FIFA on single player - Just so boring! Great laugh with mates though.

Devil May Cry 3 - Loved the first one, but just got bored with this too quick.

Battlefield 2 on PC, I love first person shooters especially online multiplayer but as much as i tried and wanted to, i just didnt 'get it', i think it's vastly overated imho, I also got sick to death of the whole "noob" comments from those that were once noobs

If I want semi-serious online now with out the arrogance I play red orchestra 41-42, which i think is far superior anyway

Also ANY fps on a console, true COD3 on the 360 is stunning visuals but imo a game controller for fps isn't remotely in the same league as a quality keybrd & mouse

A few for me (all PC)

  • Warcraft III - superb graphics and sound (for the time) but the gameplay sucked. Nothing more complex than mass churn-out of units and rush the opposition. Yawn. Totally and utterly outclassed by Command & Conquer Generals. Yep, even with C&CG's Tank Rush tactics.. ;)
  • Counter-Strike (both 1.6 and Source). There, I've said it. Let the flaming commence! Great underlying appeal marred by stupid, stupid hit detection. Why the feck after all these years is the pistol still one of the most accurate weapons? Spot a enemy 300 yards away - single shot, bam, HEADSHOT!
  • Neverwinter Nights. Massive potential and I pumped hours into the single player mode initially. Just got bored with it after a while.
  • GTR - even The Stig would have trouble handling any of those cars with consistent lap times. Zero margin for error just made the game tiresome. Much improved with the later GTL and completely forgiven with GTR2 - still the benchmark of any racing game. Period.

  The Bus and MRT
All the Burnout games after 1 & 2.. used to be fun because you'd crash if you hit even the slightest thing now you can smash into stuff and your fine handlings just got far too arcady now as well

- Burnout 3/4: Ruined by over complicating things, Burnout 2 was the peak of the series, the simple - no multiplier nonsense - crash junctions are superb.

- Gran Turismo 1/2/3/4: Appalling AI and I just generally dislike them, has got where it is by offering lots of cars and tracks, and not a great deal else. So many driving games do it better, TOCA for AI, GTL/R for realism etc.

-Any FPS ever - Not the games fault really, these trigger motion sickness in me seriously badly. 10 minutes of Quake = 10 minutes in the bathroom throwing up.

For me Doom 3 on the PC was a big let down. Too dark and scripted. Looked awesome though.

Good one. Why couldn't they just update Doom 2 but with bells and whistles on? The closest pointless-shootah-but-fun game out there for the PC is Serious Sam.

And I definitely agree with you on the 'too dark' point.

Res Evil: Mint games but to big, haven't got time to play em.

Used to play them with the lights turned off on Pro logic sound (when that was the best sound out). You could hear the zombies comin from behind you, made me jump like fook that game!

  Pink & Blue 182, JDM DC2
Alien Vs Predator - gives me motion sickness

Recently? Gears of War. Purchased on release day. Again, gave me motion sickness. Flogged it to my mate. :( Gutted.

thats the funniest thing ive ever read about WC3, youve clearly not played it online ever. Blizzard single player mode for WC3 is all roleplay, its an awesome story and its fun to work through but the real meat and potatoes of the game comes out when you play online

To be fair, once you've played the 4th one you'll be hooked. The others were ok in comparison but 4 is on another level, probably my favourite game ever,

Supposedly great games that i cant get into are:

Halo - bought it played it a handful of times and got rid of it

GOW - Misses bought me this for christmas while my old dear bought me Rainbow 6: Vegas, GOW hasn't had a look in yet, to dark to dull but graphics are good.

The 2 best games i have ever played are

Shenmue that was sensational and still would be to this day on dreamcast

Rainbow 6: Vegas i mean online is a different league to anything i have played and the graphics are truely awesome.

You might find a better graphics card helps with the motion sickness thing, an older card may have to skip frames to keep up with the action so it looks jerky-this is what triggers it afaik.

GRAW for me. Loved all the previous Ghost Recon games but have never really got into this one, even though many people rave about it being one of the best 360 games.

PGR3 was a real disappointment for me. The gameplay online is not a patch on PGR2 which is probably my favourite game ever (still play it online regularly after 18 months!). I barely use my 360 at the moment, any spare time I have to play, I play PGR2.
