Green or ITG

Im looking to get a replacement panel filter for my Cup in the near future. Just wondered what one would be better? Cotton or foam?

I have done a few searches and people have said the Green cotton flows better.

Just wanted to get some more opinions.

cotton does flow better however gets clogged easier than foam does

as long as you clean and re-oil the filter when it needs it id go for a cotton gauze

ITG are the best in my eyes... look at there motorsport usage, very good filters and look great aswell, id definetly go foam over cotton, there isnt going to be much init flow wise - and it will ultimately be better than the standard filter either way.

According to scoobynet its the best filter element available for sorting out dust + air flow, above link has a page of text and a graph from an independent test. If you do a search on yahoo for ITG FILTERS theres various other websites that have tests etc and say its the best air filter element youll find anywhere

At £38 inc vat I reckon its gonna be my 1st mod once the 172 is bedded in, Might try and improve the cold air feed pipe to std airbox too.

thats where i got mine for the 7as they are just down the road, there the ITG main agents i think aswell and nice people, there location on the circuit means they know there stuff, I know they have huge stocks, certainly keep the 16v one in stock so wouldnt surprise me if they had the cup there.

cotton gauze and especially K&erm............are horrible filters!

They flow air, sure, no probs....but their filtration quality is apalling, they havent even thouched their primary design in over 40 years, its sooper crap at removing dirt.

the BEST filter as far as removing dirt is paper, then end, no quibbles....dont flow enough, use a bigger filter.

But foam is far better than gauze.

Many a baja racer has lost an engien from using a K&erm.......they ALL run paper.

well its BMC who make the filters for the Ferrari and BMW Williams F1 cars, so theres a plus point for cotton gauze

really though all the major manufacturers of aftermarket filters will have some involvement in motorsport, i know K&N, ITG, Green, RamAir, BMC, Pipercross all do...

actually Ben the BEST aftermarket filter for filtration is JR, which is 4 ply cotton gauze...

i GAURANTEE that paper filters far better than ANY gauze. The filtering medium in gauze isnt the gauze, its the oil.......the gauze supports the oil, thats it.

You tell anybody involved in any severe environment racing to use any gauze filter and they will probably throw it back in your face. They typically run larger paper filters and a foam filter over the top.

As for BMC being used by F1 teams, sure, as ITG also supplies several teams.....one reason.....they give it to them free.

i know thats why i posted what i did after i said it, all the manufacturers are involved in motorsport, its not really a valid argument...

and i said aftermarket filter, not your paper champion/Fram ones...

Yes logically anyone who makes filters is going to be envolved in it, but seeing people who actually have to maintain there cars at there cost seem to favour ITG on the race track - thats a plus point.

how often would a f1 engine be stripped, quite alot i would think, and im sure a new filter is slapped on each time... theres not much in it between the brands, but personally prefer foam, and ITG are very high quality, and by that i guess i mean looks cos i certainly havent tested different filters to see whch filtered best or flowed best!

F1 engines are only stripped during the running in stage, then after the rebuild with new rings and bearings etc its put in a crate and used once, then stuck back in a create and used till it blows up in test chassis and practice.

F1 wont re use an engine for qual or the race.
