The only way you get a better amount back is when they can't insure you through their company or underwriters and you are forced to change policies mid term. You have to provide proof of your new insurance certificate though.
I only know this as I have had to cancel twice with them. First when I had to change underwriters with them but was still insurable under a different underwriter. I cancelled and took out a new policy but lost loads as I wasn't even halfway through.
The second was this time when I went to change to my 182 but the nearest quote they could give was £500 more than the cheapest one, so regretably I had to cancel after 4 years service. As they were unable to provide cover they returned a fairly sizable amount 7 months into the policy.
