Hi
i have noticed recently a grinding noise from the gearbox it seems to start off very lightly until it gets warmer (sounds very much like the pads grinding on the discs) .. it all seems to have stemmed when a week or so a go a ball joint failed pulling the drive shaft apart and dumping the gearbox oil all over the road along with cracking the wing and slitting the cv boot
luckily it wasn't to bad and that has all been dealt with new ball joint, drive shaft was all good and top up of gear box oil. note: i did have to have the ball joint done on the side of the road and coast down hill about a mile to have the gearbox oil topped up was only put in 2nd so shouldn't have got warm enough to do harm i would imagine??
its quite an annoying sound and iv'e heard it might be the input shaft bearing .. sound familiar??? i also know the clutch release bearing needs doing which will be done when i get a new clutch but i gotta sort this gearbox noise out first whats the best way to go about it??? ..new box or refurb??
iv'e only had the car 7 weeks bearly covered a thousand miles and already had the ball joint problem (which apparently shouldn't have passed the mot), clutch slips, nsr wheel bearing replaced and now the gearbox problem.
i also have a powerflow induction kit on it (came with the car) but seem to have a fluttering sound in higher gears before the induction kit kicks in any ideas?? it kinda sounds like a light tractor noise lol but is very windy like if that makes sense lol
Any help with any related problem would be an advantage as you can tell im not the most mechanically minded person in the world
Cheers Lee
