grinding sound upon cold start.

I drive a 2004 1.2 16v clio and when I start it for the first time i.e. completely cold it makes a noise like when you miss a gear like a grinding noise for about a second and then stops. I have tried starting it both in gear with clutch in and in neutral and it doesnt seem to make a difference.

Does anyone have any experience of this? I'm thinking the starter motor isn't disengaging quick enough and sticking for a second? I dunno, help lol.

It sounds like it mate,only thing is to remove the starter and give it a good clean and regreasing,so it slides freely

my 1.2 did exactly the same id deffo say it is the starter motor.
