Grinding

Hmmmm been driving around for a couple of months now with a strange grinding noise coming from the front. Just recently its been so unbearable it makes the car vibrate (more than the exhaust usually does). Asked the boyfriend (whos blown 2 punto engines) and he said he thought it wasnt anything important.

Problem came when driving in a straight line, turing the wheel to the right and usually only when doing around 40mph in 4th. The strange thing was, turing to the left it was fine. I checked the wheel arches to see if the wheels had rubbed since having it lowered, only rubs marks there are from turning the wheel full lock. Now was really concerned, thought it may have been the wheel axle or something.

Called a mate the other day and asked his opinion, he said he thinks its the wheel bearings, which is just annoying at first with the grinding but eventually the wheel may just fall off. So because of that I am not travelling to uni in High Wycombe today for fear of losing and damaging my rims and car.

Has anyone else had this problem? Its going to be done when my cars getting the kit on it next week. I just dont know if the sound changes before the wheel falls off. It seems to be gettin louder and happening more constantly.

Just thought Id share that worry with you.

sounds more like a driveshaft

or if anything more like ur brakes are rubbing grinding

checked ur discs/pads lately??

check ur rubber gaitors for ur driveshafts, check they havent leaked out any grease or that there not split

doesnt really sound like wheel bearing 2 me, driveshaft or brakes problem imo

although not 100% , have had driveshafts and wheel bearings go before

wheel bearing ended up making noise all the time adn deteriate fairly quickly

when my driveshaft went if i tried 2reverse on fulllock the car wouldnt allow it and would force steering wheel round

Defo sounds like a wheel bearing to me. Same noise mine made when going. Front wheels wont fall off. Although you dont want to drive it or else youll end up needing a new hub as well.

I work just outside Wycombe, in Saunderton. :D

no I dont have that reversing problem you see. We asked a few people about it. I just dont want to do any serious damage to the poor car, especially when spending money on a body kit

Sounds like you might have a problem with your CV joint. Get the wheel off and see if there is a split in the gaitor and take it to a garage to look at. If the driveshaft or CV goes, youll be left with a non moving car.

Or it might just be a cable rubbing, again get the wheel off and make sure there are no floaters ;)

I live in Aylesbury. Saunderton is literally just outside Wycombe. I take it you just fly down the M40 then.

get off here and get under ur car biatch

get feeling that rubber, see if any leaks or splits

if there both fine then maybe is a wheel bearing, a small garage would be able 2 tell u pretty quick and prob for free and then u can just run away and say ull ring them later on 2 maybe book it in

wheel bearing prob cost £40 for the bearing, £40 labour

driveshaft, £100ish maybe, £40 labour maybe

no no my little car on a motor way lol. I go through watlington then on the M40 for a junction to Stokenchurch then through west wycombe

so now u gota find out what the prob actually is lol

dont wana change a bearing if thats not the problem

ull prob notice easy enough if gaiters r split or have leaked, have u tried jacking front of the car up and spinning the wheel so u can see exactly where noise is coming from, or would it not do it at that speed??

maybe worth a try if u cant spot anything

How old is the car? Pop to your local dealer and ask him to have a look for you, they shouldnt charge to to confirm if its a CV/driveshaft. Better to be safe than sorry

will take days 2 have it booked in and any renault garage will prob charge loads just 2 blink at it

best off going 2 a small local garage and just asking them, or u could even phone 1 and they may tell u over the phone, but i doubt u will get charged at a small garage just 2 have them tell u what it is

drive down 2 a small garage local 2 u, speak 2 mechanic, he comes out, looks at car, tells u within 5 mins what problem is, off u go :)

Wont be the CV join will it.

On Clios they are lubricated by the gearbox oil, and so if its leaking you woudl notice oil on the ground, did when mine was leaking.

Sounds to me like wheel bearings

One last thing, everyone I have spoken to now says wheel bearings. Bayliss changed his a while back and all the noises stopped.

Thanks everyone
