GTA-IV running on Windows 7?

What in God's name is it doing, ffs?!

Its the first time I've installed it on Windows 7 since having it on Windows XP before that. The framerate within the cars - even the very start sequence where you pickup your cousin is absolutely shocking - easily sub-10fps and it pauses for about a quarter of a second every 20 yards or so.

On foot, it's fine (though riddled with jaggies as Rockstar couldn't be arsed with VSync by the looks of it) and twice I've set the Enter vehicle key to be the 'End' key - only for the game to then switch it to 'F' of its own accord?

FPMSL - it's horrendous - and I haven't changed any of the settings either :S. The in-built benchmarking tool ran fine (the one with the guys chasing each other on bikes and firing guns) - so you would naturally assume that the game itself would run in similar terms in performance? Obviously not.

Short of installing this on some Cray super-cluster, I can't for the life of me work out why the performance of the game is so s**t - other than its a very, very, very, very poor console port (again). Graphicially, I've got several other games that wipe the floor with this and don't even break a sweat running with more advanced graphical options enabled.

Looks like this one is to be condemned to the shelves - I simply CBA in even justifying the time to get it running well. ;)

Poor, Rockstar........ piss poor.

Not exactly the best anymore - but certainly enough to p**s on GTA4. I even get double the framerate within MW2 ffs - with a few bells and whistles turned on. Looks like they catered for the thumb-twiddlers again and ignored the ones that bought into GTA in the first place. c***s

On the contrary, my good man. Not wanting to start 'yet another' PC vs. console' yawn-thread - PCs are from FTL. Unfortunately, most software houses appear to be focused on either the 360 or PS3 and any in-house resentment or desire by staff to look towards the PC is probably met by a shooting at dawn. ;)

PC are superior in pretty much everyway. But when the developers start to pull the plug, there's little we can do to stem the tide. Shame.

I have no problems with it at all on Windows 7. In car driving is between 30-50 FPS and the graphics all look good to me at 1920x1200.

Running an ATI 4870 1GB card with an i5 running stock speed.

Have you installed the latest patches? They really improve performance.

It could be a patch issue m8 - I'll look further into that. I've got the same card (albeit the 512MB version) and I've only got the game set to 1280x1024 as well......

Cheers,

Well you already know it was a horribly optimised game, can't help on the Windows 7 thing, I have noticed a slight improvement in framerate upon putting windows 7 64bit onto my laptop with COD.
