Wouldn't be surprised to see a 200 hang on through the bends, but surely the focus should pull on the exit of corners? Didn't seem any quicker?

  Renaultsport 200
Not suprised it does well in the corners vs the RS.

Shame is looks utterly sh1t though. The best view of a 200 is when you can't see it.

Well the looks of the 200 have grown on me, and now the performance has impressed me. Its official, i like the 200 Cup.

Proof if it was ever needed that on a winding road (twisties in Clio Sport speak) the difference between good hot hatch backs isn't that large. There aren't really any straights there for the Focus to pull out an advantage.

You would probably find the Clio keeping up with a lot more exotic machinery around there too. The ultimate cornering speed of cars is often not that different...I doubt an M3 would be capable of an apex speed much higher than either of those cars...there might be a couple of MPH between them.

I hope people realise that was Millbrook and not a public road! On the public road it'd be easier to keep pace with a faster car.

Good vid, Focus driver was probably distracted by that awful sight in his rear-view mirror!

Alien green is aweful in the flesh. I have my reservations about that vid, the 200 catching the RS uphill and appearing to make significant gains in the braking zone? All staged I reckon.

I'll be reminding all the 200 haters in a few years of their words when they post the "look what I've just bought" threads... :)

no wonder the r26r rapes the focus.

Focus st's and i guess the RS just seem a little mid life crisisish to me

I can remember when the 182 came out and every mocked the wheels and exhaust, but later on they all soon changed in their 172s for one!!

Just like all other focus owners that have seen this vid,all are in denial, thinking of excuses like the driver of the focus is shite and not driving it properly.
Cracks me up,they need too realise renault know how too make cars handle.

Clio 10k cheaper and 100 bhp down on power and still sits up its aRSe in the twisties.

Remove the blinkers fella. I think we all know that a a car with over 100bhp more, an lsd etc should pull away. I have no doubt that the Focis RS is the quicker car, as it should be given the price/power difference. They aren't even in the same segment ffs, it's a teaser designed to stimulate discussion and hits to the autocar website, mission accomplished.

I'm looking forward to the 200, hopefully it'll bring the excitement and fun that I felt the 197 was lacking.

Highly believable, lol at staged!! From my experience with renault sports, they are extremley composed at the limit and very easy to exploit. The RS may have 100bhp more, but at the end of the day you can see the lard making a difference on those bends.

There is no doubt they were both flat out, but you can see the clio is easier to put in the right place at the right time, and if any thing I have always found the Renault Sport range on the road to have more reserves in the way of braking and handling than they do power.

RS 200 FTFW!!!

So that 'Revo knuckled' Focus RS should pull away?
Staged?

The Clio gave that Focus a run for it's money...

Like i said fun is not a straight line, where the Focus RS can really stretch it's Volvo 5 cil. Turboized legs.

As has been mentioned, there is no way of getting away from the fact that the Focus is a heavier car. Clio seems to be taking much tighter and more composed lines in the twisty stuff.

What is it, at least 200kg heavier?

I'm not sure anyone disputed the performance anyhow, the early reviews were incredibly positive, 5* review in Autocar iirc.

I have owned and spent more time driving clios than you likley ever will!! I know just how capable Renautsport(!!) are, I have embarassed porsches in a clio....

I will reserve judgement on the 200 until i have driven one, but unlike most including yourself i have drive an RS.

Remove the blinkers????????????????

so the 200 is quicker round track than the R26 megane???

wake up and smell the coffee!!

This thread is a cliosport classic. The clio punches well above its weight.. but there are some limits. FLOL

All staged I reckon.

Bit of an over the top reaction, imo.

The Trophy was keeping silly cars honest through the Welsh mountains long ago, and at that time there was no reason for any publication to 'stage' or promote it unfairly as they had all gone.

The early reviews from almost every publication going have been unanimous in their praise for the 200, putting it right back up to the top of the hot hatch pile. Over a tight twisty test route like this it doesn't seem particularly unbelievable.
