see if you can find an old garage where they have attendants, and get the cheapest petrol you can,

and while you are there ask him/her to wipe your bum too!

mechachrome: the last of our old garages has been turned into a Rover Specialist

My 172 is a little sharper using shell or bp but tbh not worth the extra wonga.

I use it though as the car was tuned to run using a 98ron fuel. If just for more performance, not that much in it!

Right Time is up, Im off for me Petrol, Optimax is the clear winner, that thats what itll be!

Mark: When I say thats whats in there, I mean that its on red, so theres about a cupfull of it in there!

no i was talking about that. lol

get sainsburys mate its not about paying 88.9p a lt. go to sainsburys and get in for 83p or how ever much it is

Dont waste your money on high RON stuff unless your engine timed to used it (and it isnt as long as its stock) as youll loose power. You might geta cleaner burn as the injectors are cleaned though as optimax has other bits in it but no other gains.

BenR did a post a few days ago on it.

So you could fill 3 ul and 1 opti and it would pretty much be the same?

Optimax will make less power as its needs adjusted ignition timing and higer compression rates to take advantage of the fuel in normal use its not being used so is less useful than normal fuel

172/182/Cups are designed to run on 97+ RON fuel so need it for full power but can run (abeitly at power power) on normal fuel.

Quite interested in this

Got a 182 on order at the moment and salesman said it runs on normal unleaded just as well as superplus? is this wrong?

Or will it run better on super plus?

Go to safeway, buy a few microwave meals, a crete of beer, and then buy your petrol wiht the money off voucher from your shopping :)

Go for a razz, and then go home sit infront of the tv wiht microwave meals and beer :)

Its designed to run on 97+ RON fuel ie the expensive stuff so running on normal fuel means less power no question. It will run happily on normal stuff all its life no problem but you wont get 182hp.

If I had one it would be run on 97+ RON fuel all the time.

Optimax etc also have other bits and pieces in them which help make the burn more clean and the injectors at full potential so keeps the engine better. Running on supermarket fuel wont matter the engine will still last almost forever the biggest killer would be canning it form cold but even then it should last almost forever.

the thing is tho unless your blasting round a track doing alot of laps and being timmed or doing alot of 1/4m runs and take things seriously (being timed correctly) then IMO you arnt going to notice that little bit of extra power the fuel is giving you and with it costing afair bit more is it really worth it, im personly not covinced it is.

Yep I agree but since people think they can tell the difference between a few HP might as well get the most you can. Anyway you should get get better MPG with 97+ RON as its designed for that than normal fuel, which you might be able to argue is able to counteract the extra cost. ANyway the difference is price isnt that much round where I live I think about 2.5% which isnt much.

Interesting thread... reason is... well, Ive tried them all...

Normally: Sainsbergs unleaded.
Twice a month: Optimax
A few times to date: Tesco.

Done 10k in my 182, and I must say... for some bizzare reason, Ive got better economy and punch out of Tesco 95 unleaded?!!

Theretically, optimax should have given best economy, but it didnt, although engine was noticable smoother (especially at idle)...

You think sainsburys are watering down our fuel??!

  182, GTR, C63

Well if its my tank i want optimax but is somebody elses well stick some chepo unleaded in from tesco and ill drink vodka and piss in it. The vodka wont make any difference though it will still break your car.

Okay... Tesco is my local Petrol Station, I normally go Sainsbury because I get the money off voucher. BP, way too expensive round here and I just never consider Total or Esso.

My verdit on using Optimax after the Sainsbury? No difference whatsoever.

Apart from I used it quicker, I bought it yesterday, have done 200 miles and now am on half a tank. (i filled her up)
