right after leaving my music on whilst the car wasnt on for over an hour obviously the car died.. the battery was completely flat, tried to start it nothing had workk so i had to jump start the b**ch, stalled at some traffic lights because i wasnt use to a new clutch that was fitted last weekend, so i had to call my uncle to jump start the car!! not happy!
got home and now today jump started the car to get to kwik fit and they told me the battery was completley dead... a few hours from that i had a a call sayin my starter motor was nakerd and blown and that no positive charge was going to the battery and the alternator!! really pissed off now am going on holiday tomoro and desperatly need the car asap! :(

Sorry to hear about this bud.

I'd take this into your own hands mate if you can.

And try to fix it yourself by sourcing a battery (Lucas, Halfords or any good motor factors should have one) do a search on net :)

As fitting a battery is a piece of piss.

Kwik Fit may be pulling your leg about the starter motor as well i think.

Because if your battery aint holding charge, fair enough your alternator could be at fault. (Best to get your new battery and fit it and run car for a few miles then get a multimeter on the + & - terminals (engine off) and check it has held charge - should be around 11-13 volts if i remember correct if it hasn't held and is less than say under 10 volts your alternator is fucked)

Alternetivaly start the car so that the alternator is charging the battery and put the multimeter on the + & - terminals again and check the alternator is charging (around 13-14 Volts)

But starter motor

It think there taking piss, whats the chances of all 3 failing at once ?

And if your uncle managed to jump start you i'd probably rule out starter.

hmmm interesting i never really messed with the battery before besides hooking up the sub, from what i can remember from the call the bloke said something has blown on the starter so that mo positive charge was going to either... am not sure if thats hs correct words but when he tested the battery it was on red, completley flat, its wierd though because its never happened before.. and my car was stationary, it wasnt running, if it was runing it probably would of been fine.. am having doubts... il see if i can update on the situation if he calls me again...

just recieved word, said they changed the battery but couldnt get hold of any starters soon enough.. said the only way it will start is to jump start it.. :(

I would go for changing the battery, if you are gonna have to change that anyway. It pretty easy if you have a socket set with long extension.
Sometimes the nobs at garages haven't got a clue what they are on about.
Usually if your alternator has gone then you will get the battery light coming on in the car while the engine is running. If you haven't noticed that then I can't see it going just because you ran the battery down.

Do you mean bump start?
Jump start is with jump leads which would mean the starter is working.

Not wanting to sound Negative here.

Agree with you there Nin some garages love coining in on peoples misfortune :(

They'lll know your desperate to get your car back for holiday tomorrow so will screw you all they can :(

And thats a valid point about the battery light :)

I completely forgot that would come on.

Lol

Thats what i was thinking :S

thanks for the response yeah the battery light didnt come on, only time i noticed that was when before you ignite all the lights came on apart from the battery, it flashed when tryin to start the car but nothing happend.
right about this bump/jump thing, i started the car by using two leads and two cars? whats that called then :p lol

Did the battery light flash before trying to jump start ?

If so this is probably because the battery was fucked (dead)

Thats "Jump Starting" if you use two leads (jump leads) this takes power from a good battery on another car to start yours.

In thats case your starter motor will be fine.

If you managed to turn key and start car with it stationary.

I'd get on phone to Kwik Fit and say that you don't want th starter motor changed.

And ask them what the reason is that it needs changed ? ;)

Just with reference to what happened to me when the alternator went (twice) on my Punto GT.

Things like the wipers took an age to pass the screen just once. The battery light used to flicker and the idling started to suffer. It was ok if you gave it a bit of gas though.

I hope its just your battery that's gone!

D.

Heres hoping they never got a hold of a .starter

Lol

Hope they never changed your alternator did they ?

If so, ask for your old one back and you can sell it and get some money back that you never needed to spend ;)

And its also proof that they fitted a new one :) (if there genuine they'll have to issues with giving you it back - take it even though they say its fucked when its not, as they may us it on someone elses car :()

ha well.. hmm thats erm what £200 between 3 of you to me then?

nope your wrong, got the car back problem is where the positive area is on the battery, a thin section on metal as split, kinda like a fuse, they say it would only do that in an emergency, say that there might of been a possible power surge... so basically the other guy who said i need new motors and alternater was talkin crap.
this old man who told me that i need a new asap really, but my friend soldered it together having realising it was on the verge of snapping, but its split now.. it all makes sense now because he was trying to explain something about the battery when replacing my clutch i had no idea what he was talkin about...
to me all i can say is that its like a giant fuse, connecting to the alternator an powering all my electrics, when it split one side was feeding power only to the alternator whilst the other side was to all my other electrics, so i cant charge my battery now... would it be safe if i say, stuck a peice of metal in between to make a connection whilst getting my hands on a new one in the mean time? or wont it last?

I wouldn't risk bodging it up tbh.

To re-iterate what others have said.
I wouldn't trust sh*t fit at all. Whenever anyone takes a re there for somethnig they always say it needs xyz extra going to too & they can just fit you in. They are conmen !

Does it say what fuse rating is on the battery terminal? I know which part you mean as I had my battery off a few times.

You can join the gap up with the correct rating fuse wire if you know what it's supposed to be, then there is no danger in running it.
Probably quikfit may have broken the link when they removed the battery or something?

i dont wanna defend kwik fit cuz i usually wouldnt go there. but am selling my car to my parents and they prefered the work coming with a guarantee.

had the following work done,

2 front tyres
front discs
front pads
tracking
air-con regass

charged £350 including parts labour and vat. and i had the car back 3 hours after dropping it off.

get free tracking again in a month to check its still ok
and free pad changes for ever.

they phoned twice when they did the work to inform me of the exact parts (at my request). they didnt say anything else needed doing or anything.

well i dont know whats made it snapped in the first place.. maybe it was my sub, which now i have disconnecteed from the battery... might of been my HIDs that might have triggered a surge.. but for the time being ive made a connection using a clip and a screw pinned down, all it needs really is to make a connection so that hopefully it will charge my alternater whilst driving. but the fear of not know what caused the surge my result in something damage because a screw wont snap that easy.. but its going have to do as my mate soldered it up in the first place.

Agree with this 100%, you may get the odd good K Fit but they are few and far between :S

Glad to hear you've a temporary fix in place to get you going ;)

Give Reanult a buzz or a breakers and see how much they'll sting ya for a new one.

I'd have thought if it was your Hid's, a fuse for them would have popped aswell as the one on the battery :S

yeah i thought that too but the guys there were saying i had loads of electrical stuff sub, amp, lights, HIDs etc.. it could of been anything.. stil am not convinced i never payed any attention to it before because it never served up a problem.. ah wel it will have to do for now as long as it gets me to manchester airport am fine! the cars not going to be driven for a week so i suppose theres no major danger.. hopefully! :)
