Had components replaced as thought faulty but problem started again! :(

  K20 EG Hatch
Right in my 182 i have bought new a alpine 9812rb head unit, alpine t420 2 chnl amp and a set of rainbow slc components.
All has been installed to A class with and wires that need joining soldered and I am using a good quality 4 channel wiring kit and it is s**t hot earthed!

Now with my components the drivers tweeter started to turn off and then come back on. Sometime it will come back on quiet and sometimes you can here the engine through it (just the drivers side tweeter). After all this I have had them replaced (ICE company said there was no fault found with them but replaced anyway).

So a few days ago i installed the new set and they are deffinately installed properly. But it has started doing the same above again!

Any idea what it could be as all the connections are absolutely perfect! Should i take it to bass junkies and pay them to check it?

hmmm, does it turn the whole HU off, or does the sound just go or get quiet?

no the head unit carries on playing fine as normal, as does the passenger side component set. Just the drivers tweeter goes off, not too sure whether the mid in the door does but its exactly as it was with the first set of components. Cant be coincidence!

Same happened to me Dan in my old Grande, never found out what was wrong but they only seemed to turn off when the weather was cold :S

If you find out what's wrong let me know

Active is when you run the tweeters and mids of different amps (normally), and you have a active cross-over. Passive is where you run them of the cross-over you get with the componants.

sorry mate.
Right i run from the amp the speaker wire to the cross overs that came with the component set. The from the cross over there are seperate wires to the tweeter and the door speaker. This help? Thanks

It's passive.

Sounds a very annoying problem. Anything possibly touching the wiring in the door somewhere or where you have installed the crossovers?

  RenaultSport clio 172 mk2
Yes thats called passive.

Have you tried running defferent speakers from the from faulty speaker wire to determen (sp?) weather its the tweeter is dodgy are futher along the line (speaker wire, cross-over). Do you know what i mean?

No i have not tried running different speakers but im 100% certain the wiring is fine! It is new and has no breaks etc and has all been soldered and heat shrink installed. There is no way the same tweeter could be faulty again! Could it be the amp?

What if i swap the phono's round at the amp end then that would test if it was the amp cuz surely the faulty tweeter should change to the passenger side and not the drivers?

^^^

Swapping the amp channels was what I was going to recommend, will eliminate the amp from the equation if the drivers side still goes funny.

  K20 EG Hatch
ahhh :) will do that at dinner and see how i get on.
I hope to god it is a faulty amp as i only just bought it new.

Seeing as the comps have been replaced and still do it i'd say its probably going to be the amp. Would've been the first thing i'd have tried.
If its not thats when it'll get interesting.

Have you got a multimeter or a scope? You could try them on the channel in question.

i don't think it would be the amp because if it was the amp then the mid wouldn't be working either ;)

Said above he didn't know whether the mid was still working, so its gotta be worth a shot.

*Breakthrough*

After swapping the phono's over it was fine untill this morning. And the passenger side has not started doing what the drivers side was before so this means it has to be the amp right? Or could it still be put down to wiring kit?
Thanks for your help guys.

thats the thing dude. They will work but its intermittent as they seem to work for hours on end then they will have half an hour of being gay and playing up.
To be honest im just gonna call bass junkies and see if they will swap it!

Seems like a odd problem, could you maybe borow a amp of a mate, and use that for a bit and see if you have the same problem, sounds like it could be something inside the amp and when it gets hot it becomes loose.

To be honest mate i'm just gonna try my luck with bassjunkies and see if they will excahnge it. Its only three weeks old!
