Had my H&R's completely set up....

Finally got my coilovers set up when the lad doing them had some time to spare.
He used to work for a Clio cup team, and recently set up and raced an EP3 CTR in the Britcar 24hour and came 6th overall!!!

Anyways, equipped ith 2 fishing poles, fishing wire, 4 axle stands, a jack, and some spanners/sockets he set to work.

My H&R's have been modified for fully adjustable camber (can get upto -ve 7 degrees on them haha!) so was an easy job to do. My guesswork of getting it even on each side set them at -1.5 and -1.4 which I was quite impressed with! But the steering was slightly out and the toe-in needed sorting badly.

In a little over an hour he had finished, set the camber to -ve 2.5 which he said would be spot on for my use (as many track days as possible but day to day use) toe in was set to what he thought and i forgot to ask what!
Tracking and allignment was set perfectly too.

Went for a blast once done, and man what a difference! Turn in was 10 times better again, drove 100% straight etc, soooooo impressed!
It's a bit rubbish on the motorway for tramlining etc, but as I only go on those type of roads once in a blue moon it doesnt bother me at all.

As of Friday it will be 100% set up and ready for my first trackday a week tomorrow, with all of my bits fitted and set properly, soo excited!

Friend of a friend ;)

I 'think' most places charge for 3 hours labour to do this job if you fit them yourself, he did it in about 1 hour 20 to have it done completely, using only a jack etc with going up and down to check measurements, on ramps it would probably have been an hour dead.

a few of my mates have coilies and neither have took them to someone to set them up yet . most places round my way wont touch coilovers for some reason .

It seems a 'simple' job once you know what to do, he talked me through a bit of it, and to be honest the hardest part is setting the box equal around the car, then it's just using Trig to set the angles etc all in.
But a lot of garages don't deal with this stuff day to day so I could understand not seeing it that way.

I would be happy to set them up myself now, and maybe go somewhere for a quick check up once I had done.

correct keiran, no-where around here does set up suspension. There is a guy who does mobile set ups, called south wales wheel alignment (or something like that) who suposed to be the guy to know

^^ thats the way forward isnt , knowing someone . there is such a gap in the market imo around south wales for most things car related . tuning and suspension .

What did he use to check the cambers? Did he have a smart level? Thats the way most motorsport teams do it but garages tend to use lasers nowadays

Interested to know what -2.5 is like compared to -2 or -1.5 lol. You reckon the driveability hasn't suffered?

Camber was done with a digital protractor, but only because he managed to nick one from work, he normally does it through trig.

Pics will be up at some point, car will be finished as of friday so maybe then!

Rich - Seems fine apart from a bit of tramlining on the motorway, normal day to day driving seems perfectly fine :)
Lad who did it lives in Hinkley, I managed to get some late night space at an industrial unit there for him to do it.

The difference you have now between standard and fitting them but not set up, multiply that by around 4.63914 million, and that's how much better it is!

Seriously though, worlds apart.
