Had the ITB'd beasty RR'd the other week...

went in for a diagnostic as there was an intermittent fault with the car cutting out... now before the usual anti GDI f**k wits start their crap this was sensor related, so I was given a free RR for my trouble...

graph I will need to get as this one wont scan being laminated, but before the sensors were replaced it was 175bhp @ the wheels and 140lbs @ the wheels iirc, will check in a bit... after results are much nicer

Power = 203.8bhp @ the wheels

Torque = 163.6bhp @ the wheels

best bit was at 2500rpm, where the torque went up 40lbs/ft @ the wheels. It's faster now carrying passengers and a boot full of crap and full interior (inc spare) than it was stripped lol.

I'll nip to the garage this week and get a CD with my results to post up. But yes, it's a much happier car now

Some people will no doubt argue that it's over reading, it could well be, but either way it's up 25bhp @ the wheels as seen by the NW & SY lot on Saturday :rasp:

B

Brown.

any one else not noticed thaT torque is measure in lbs ft or Nm not bhp?? lol

B

Brown.

id be excited too.... the son of god, and the muchos powerfull ph quick!

oops, yeah lbs/ft I meant lol

dunno what it would be at the fly, add 17-18% iirc, so around 240bhp... that's about the same as the Yozzasport Cup isn't it Fred? Not bad for stock BE and headwork ;) lol

cheers guys, I'm well pleased with it now the sensor has been replaced and it's working as it should. Took it to Ric Wood as he's just round the corner, well impressed with him, he's the dude that setup the TT Clio... he had a bit of a nightmare with this though as diagnostics wasn't showing up the fault item. So it's running sweet now, so will be back into GDI in the new year for some more engine toys... want more power :)

completely hooked lol, cant help it, just have a thing for Clio's, but in an ideal world this engine would be sat in a brand new rust free MK1 shell, these 172's don't handle rate well imo... the chassis is garbage compared to the MK1 :(

I TTake it you bought MaTT's beasty then?

I TTend to go down there every 4-5 weeks for a nosey at the latest projects and chat... oh and the cakes they sell at the local petrol station! They are f**king legendary!

Wow...Impressive figures. Makes me hungry for more power. But i'll resist and fix that shed of a williams! haha

yeah would like to have a straight line comparison... no point on track, he's a better more experienced driver and his cars setup for that kinda stuff lol. Once I have the money to play with the head and bottom end (god that sounds dodgy...) then it will certainly be interesting. Mind you, if you were driving it and were used to it I'd say it would stand a very good chance... but I dont know if my gearbox is ready for the 2 live way yet! lol

oh I mean near GDI for the cakes! lol

haven't seen any other Ph1's near my neck of the woods (no pun there!), I'm only in Cheadle Hulme if your local. See if we can get a mini meet on the go as there's a fair few in the Manchester/Stockport area all local to us

  williams and trophy

lol..yeah iv heard these newer clios have rather fragile components. ;)

well, they may do in general but the box feels a lot nicer than any of the Mk1's I have driven lol... mind you, that's not particularly difficult, they blow up for f**king fun! haha

  ph1 172...a red one
Yep there aren't many ph1's in Stockport, and even fewer with greyed haired old duffers driving them  but I'd love to see ur motor!

hehe, well I've seen a 60+ year old woman in a Trophy pal, so wouldn't beat yourself up too much lol.

yeah we will deffo have to arrange a meet, why not come along to the ice skating at the weekend? It's in the local meets thread... I wont be skating, but we're all off out for a meal afterwards too. Gives you a chance to meet some of the NW crew, they are a really sound bunch, guaranteed to have a laugh if the chuckle brothers are there too (aka the Northrops lol)

Fred, I couldn't possibly take a days wages off you mate! ;) lol

Seriously though what kind of wager? If this involves any track related shenanigans then it would be a foregone conclusion, but for a straight line do I'll deffo give it a go... but, do I strip my car down to the same weight or do you add an interior to yours to make it fair, as I assume it's engine vs engine you want to find out, not power to weight... as yours being completely stripped wont really prove much... so yeah, up for it but we need to sort out all the intangibles first!

Should be interesting anyway, I'd expect yours to be faster due to being more heavily modified, but either way I think it will be interesting and fun. No slicks if standing launches are in the equation too! ;)

  Lionel Richie
no standing launches, suspension isn't setup for that! (and i'm not changing the gearbox!)

we ain't putting anything back in! £1 is 100% more than my days wages i'll have you know! :(

pah, dont be soft you girl, my car's not setup for anything other than looking good and tanking faster cars in straight lines, cos it certainly doesn't handle for s**t! I doubt it's good from standing... not really tried any hard launches...

So I'm gonna have to strip the s**t out of mine to get it to a similar weight, cos the cups are lighter anyway aint they? If I remove rears, spare wheel/jack and tools I'll still need to remove rear plastics, carpet etc etc and prolly passenger seat? Could do with a weigh bridge day really lol... think I'll just remove all seats bar drivers and see how it does.

Yoz still paying you in sexual favours?

I only weigh 12 stone cheeky fucker and I'm 6'2 lol :( I dont know, you younguns, no feckin' respect for your elders! pmsl

it's my car that's fat anyway, but if I remove the wheels that should reduce the unsprung weight some what :D

well obviously, the weight will be even then!

nah, I'll prolly just take the backs out and spare wheel, anymore than that is just a pain in the arse... plus, it gives me a good excuse if yours is quicker ;) (which it should be!).

Andy will be doing some more stuff early next year anyway, so it will be a good gauge for before and after performance. What power is yours running at the wheels/fly for torque and bhp anyway? You got a graph? The cams in mine are for good low down and mid range punch, I'd imagine yours is the oposite due to BE work and revs to at least 8k? I only take mine to 7k, as I think Andy said it starts to drop out of the power after that a bit... still insisted on a higher rev limit though... 7600 now

  Lionel Richie
ours only revs to 7.5K, apparently 205@wheels, we don't keep RR graphs as they're not worth anything! "when the flag drops, the northerner heads home and crys" ;)

hehe, yeah i think yours will beat mine, but once I have a few more choice mods I'll be taking the quickest Mk2 on TB's for straight line power ;)

you and martin need to have a 1/4 mile doo @ pod or somthing.... would like to see the 2 t/b'd cars against one another....

Martins after he's striped it would be an easy win I'd expect.
LOL @ the straight line thing! spend money on track days

good driver is worth way more than 20bhp
How much is a Mk1 shell instead of a Mk2 worth HP wise? Since TheJesus says (and so does BenR) there faster for thhe same HP.

HP sells though. Don't you sell 200hp kit?

  Lionel Richie
no we use the word "approx" or "around", and your right bhp does sell (although not in the clio market!)

torque is the most important thing
