Hand swirl correction products - Recommendations?

Claying is designed to remove surface contaminents. Mine doesn't build up due to protection and washing . . . so yes I go pretty much straight into polishing.

You cannot remove the vast majority of swirls using your hands mate, it is not worth the time and hassel to do so. If you could why would so many people have bought their own orbital/people make businesses out of the service?

Like you say, people use different products due to their previous experience and I appreciate your findings :)
Yeah I know where your coming from mate, Im just stating that for hand correction for swirls my findings with the 3m handglaze have been the best. It does take a long time and effort but not as good as a machine polisher

I just stated claying as If it were a car that had never really been cared for or clayed previously

I clay my car once every 6 months just to get any contaminents (sp) out of the surface before I start with any harsh polishes as like has been stated it damages the pads, but no need to clay it every time you whip the PC out :)

Ive just used a PC for the first time on my car and im impressed but I know I could get better with some different compounds and pads :) but pleased with it for my first go

Yeah all about the practice Chris, great pieces of kit. I actually ended up buying a panel off ebay that was in s**t condition and practiced with different pads and compounds before using them on the car, worked a treat, just washed it with gritty water and a sponge to get the swirls back again LOL!!

I ALWAYS clay before machine polishing, regardless of the condition of the car. Once done if you keep the car waxed etc, you shouldn't need to do it again too often. I only really do it now before machine polishing or if I want to strip all the wax etc off.

As for the hand swirl removal, here's a thread from DW I dug up that some of you may be interested in. Unfortunately some of the pics don't work anymore, but you get the idea :)

I looked for that yesterday Rich couldn't bleeding find it!!!

The fact is fillers are just masking the swirls. Machine polish compound is full of abbrassives.

Simple to remove swirls completely you need an abbrassive polish or machine polish.

A glaze can mask swirls all they want but depending what finish you are looking for it'll never really remove them.

Will have a gander at that later on Rich lad, cheers.

I haven't clayed the whole car in quite a while, I will occasionally use it to get rid of clay spots, however.
