Abarth 595 Competizione Cquartz protection

  Turbo 182 Alfa 159
So the other half decided she wanted yellow wing mirror caps and stripes fitted instead of the original grey stripes. So took it off down to my mates and while it was down there getting the vinyl work done used it as an excuse to give its first proper wash since collecting it late last year and get some good protection on the paintwork. It was also supposed to have the dash wrapped and the back of the Sabelt seats clear wrapped to protect them but being textured none of this could be done without sanding stuff and screw sanding a pair of £1500 seats lol.

First step was to wash it off after a good 250 mile trip to my mates place. Hit with Tardis to remove all the tar, then a good blasting of Iron X which took off the remaining contamination. Paintwork felt smooth after it was dried off so we didn't bother with a clay bar which risked more damage to the paintwork anyway.

Then pulled in and put on axle stands, wheels removed, calipers and arches cleaned out.

Next my friend from CustomWrapz took over, removed the standard grey stripes and let us panel wipe and get any residue left over off the paintwork for him to apply the new yellow stripes. Looking bare:

In the mean time while he got on with fitting the new stripes, we taped the car up ready for being hit with CarPro Essence.

Stripes fitted. Wheels cleaned front and back, protected with CarPro Dlux. Arches and calipers also done with Dlux. Wheels back on and back on the ground ready for the paintwork to be tackled.

Paint defects assessed, at this point it had covered approx 4k miles and only been washed by myself a handful of times. Told the dealer to not to it when it arrived so they left it well alone. Paintwork wasn't bad to be fair, minor swirling in areas that get dirty fast such as rear bumper. Couple of random deep scratches dotted around on the passenger door and couple on the roof.

Most of the damage was fixed via Rupes Bigfoot mini with a white light cutting pad and CarPro essence. Any harder bits were tackled with yellow pad and Meguiars 101.

Few after photos before we applied the Cquartz UK to the paintwork.

After this it was getting on for midnight so we treated the glass with the Gtechniq G1 kit and then called it a night and finished the rest the next morning. Leaving enough time for the Cquartz and the G1 to cure over night.

G1 Applied. Wasn't a big fan of how it went on but I'm sure after a few goes I would get used to it.

Finished for the night

24535262270_233a0610c1_b.jpg

Next day was, paintwork going over with CarPro Reload, engine bay quick detail, door shuts etc done with Reload. Interior hoovered, matts and seats treated with Gtechniq Smartfabric, the glass cleaned on the inside and tyres dressed. Engine bay was given a quick wipe down and then various plastics treated with Dlux.

Was a long weekend, would of been a lot longer if it wasn't for the help of a friend and Tom who owns Ultimate Auto who let us use his unit and gave me a helping hand over both days. On the Saturday evening we had 3 Rupes polishers all tackling the car to speed things up.

Thanks for reading.

Not usually a fan of stripes and the like, but to be fair that does look very, very good! Proper wheels too :)

Stunning car . The yellow stripes look good , they sort of follow on from the yellow Brembos . I'm not really a fan of the yellow wing mirrors though , they look a bit out of place to me .

Looking good.

How you finding the G1? My wipers juddered a bit but settled down now.

Yeah they juddered a little at first, but now its been on for a while its fine no juddering at all. Although for how much harder it was to apply over G5, I am not sure I would bother with it again.

Thanks, they are great fun! They drive very similar to the clios i find, just one of them cars you want to have fun in and rag around constantly.

Thanks mate. Yeah its right little riot to drive with that Garrett strapped to it up front now, just wants to be abused all the time haha.

That's some dedication to drive 250 miles for the work. Where did you go? Area, I mean.

There's not a lot of lip on those spacers, is that safe?

Car does look great though. Loved your last one, but this looks better.

  Suzuki Jimny
What a colour! I've got a boner for blue cars at the moment.

Out of interest, why was the car machine polished after putting the stripes on, surely before would have made more sense?

Thanks dude, the mrs loves it. Although she does miss her old one too.

The drive was more because we are good friends with Tom at Ultimate Auto and Alec from CustomWrapz so we went out for a meal etc while we all down there. It was Worcestershire area.
Spacers never caused any issues, tested them at 140 lol. They are off now anyway though as the new wheels in 17x8 et30 are too wide with the spacers.

Yeah it looks superb when its clean.

I suppose it would of been better to machine polish before, but the car was fully decontaminated before they were fitted once the old ones were removed so any minor paint damage is hidden by the new ones anyway. And not sure how the vinyl would of stuck to the paint with CarPro essence all over it so we just didn't risk it.

2 birds, 1 stone then really. (Regarding the trip/meal/work)

It just looked like there would be a bit of stress on the wheel bolts as the lip on the hub looked minimal with the spacers on. Tested on a private airfield? ;)

Any pics of the new wheels? Or you updating your other thread with them on?
