Handbrake Problem

Car  Megane Coupe
Firstly Im Not Sure If The Set-ups The Same On Clios (But It Looks Very Similar)

On my 2000 W-reg megane coupe the handbrake seems to have a problem! There seems to be alot of play & movement from it. Say if the handbrake is on i can still pull it up & side to side without it tightening. Its like something has come off.

if i take the plastic covering off i can see the base of the handbrake lever moving like nothings holding it in place.

i hope i've made myself clear as its quite hard to explain

thanks

This happened with my Clio and the handbreak then eventually snapped off the car.

Took it to the garage and they said its common, you can either have it welded back on, or if you didnt want this because it will takes ages and need to have interior striped slightly then the garge I used just got a large nut, bolt and washer and scured it back down tightley with that.

The Renault bolt used is puny and it's obvious why it snapped off because of all the force used against it on a regual basis.

Thanks For The Info Mate . Do You Know Where Abouts The Bolt Needs To Go?

Theres 2 I think, there will be a current bolt there anyway, just remove that then put the bigger one in, you can see them when removing the plastic handbreak surround, then under the car secure it with a large washer underneath and then tighten it up as much as possible. Garage I used had an air powered type thing to secure it on tight.

You might need the hole made bigger for the bolt but as mine had snapped off the hole was big enough anyway.
