Handling

  Clio Sport 182
Hi Guys,

My clio seems to be really erractic when i drive it hard. If i hit a corner and the camber is a bit off it feels like the back wants to jump out and the front follows buy twitching and flicking in and out. Possibly the worst handling iv ever experienced? It feels like its coming from the back end?

Any one else had this problem?

Yes, hundreds of people ;) Have a search about on here...

Things to check in order:

Tyre pressures.
Tyre condition.
Tyre quality (i.e.: replace budgets!)
Rear shocks - leaking.
Geometry.

I think the latter two or more likely, its going in tomorrow to a good mate who's a specialists if all goes bad ill just buy a new complete uprated suspension kit.

Fair enough!

Koni adjustable shocks and springs, or decent coilovers .. do a search for the Koni setup, they're rated well normally but I can't remember what springs ate recommended.

Koni - cheers for that mate, this is my first clio. I know i brought it cheap....real cheap but i didn't expect it to be handling like my epileptic gran on acid.

Original is best in my opinion unless your going to spend big bucks mate, my money is on rear shocks being your problem.

The splitter won't make any difference it's just aesthetic on these cars, it does look good though! Fabia splitter from Skoda fits fine, looks better and is a load cheaper too :)

i was going to buy one of those flash carbon fibre ones any how. So you reckon original is the best bet

imo this will be the geometry or tyres probably both! had the same problem when id just put my new suspension on and had budgets on the rear, got it fully aligned and some proxies on the back and its awesome now!

How do I get the geometry checked? I have perelli's all round on mine

And what on earth are proxies?

Iv just taken it out for a real hard blast, under braking its horrible really really bad

proxies are toyo proxies a type of tyre.

Geometry can be checked at most garages especially tyre fitters.
Have you checked the pressures? how old are the tyres?

that would be very good, 1 spring for my 172 (from Renault directly) was £75!

Be sure it's definately the right spring though. for 172's I hear there were different set-ups over the life of the model, a blob of paint on the spring dictated which ones you'd need for replacements.

could be differnt for 182's though, I'm not sure.

Anyway, yes, £85 a pair, if they're the rigfht ones, would be great.

Lol deffinatly check tyre pressures before you spend any money. Some places will check your geometry for just a few quid aswell.

For suspension I'd say so bud, when I bought my cup it came with raceland, switched to original as soon as possible and it is miles better

Straight away, two new rear suspension shocks, and off side ball joint and track rod end. Luckily my mate is a blummin good mechanic. Even going to see if he can comfortably do my cam belt for me. That's what mates are for.
