Hard wiring the origin B2

  Golf R32 & 172 CUP

Got on to this on the last thread but would rather start it again.

I have ordered my Origin B2 finally!! Cheers to (HAS 16v) for sorting me out a fantastic deal!

I want to hard wire it and could do with a idea of how to go about doing this as should be getting it tommorow!!

Wait til it arrives and all will become clear.

It is sooooo easy to do.

Just fit it normally, then chop off the plug and wire into an existing 12v feed.

No need to take dash off to do it.

Run the wires down the side of the dash and underneath it.

Why do you need to go to the trouble of taking the top off the dash? The cables can happily run down the pillar and along the underside of the dash.

It takes ten minutes to get the top dash off, easy job.

If you dont want to do it Im sure you could managed a trip down the a12 to chelmsford and Ill do it for ya.

By why, there is no need? Its probably better off under the dash so it can be removed if for some reason something goes wrong.

I run my cables down the right hand side of the dash (behind the door rubber).

All out of side and a darn sight quicker than removing dash top!

Same as mine. No cables in sight anywhere, and far easier and less risky than removing the dash. Bearing in mind I dont keep cars long I like to be able to get things out easily enough.

All it takes is a trip and youve snapped the dash top.

I dont know anyone who has taken the dash top off to install one.

Just run the wires under the dash. I used some of those sticky plastic pads which you can then run a cable tie through. All very neat and out the way.

Will there not be a wire showing accross the top of the dash in that case? Is there a way to hide this?

Also if you tap off of the cigarette lighter will it still work?

Pete, if youre not fussed about it being a very tidy neat job like Richs then run it round the edge, if not its a dash off job which really isnt that difficult.

Cool, ta.

Im interested to see what you did with the cable for the laser detector as thats the only one I have showing now its installed in the 182. Problem is if you place it at the top of the screen its less effective. I know mine works at the bottom.

hardly noticeable either way really, aslong as it dont get in the way or look too untidy then should be fine, best bet is to see what you think when youve got it in ur hands
