harddrive needs replacing-what will i lose?

  535d / t5 caravelle
My dell laptop has been shite lately, just been onto dell support and he's run some tests and i need a new harddrive which is coming in the post on friday, i need to return my old one, what will i lose by replacing the harddrive? i pressume photo's will be gone?

what i'm asking is what do i need to do now, to avoid loosing what ever i may stand to lose? is it just a case of putting stuff onto a memory stick? or is there better/easier ways?

cheers

You will lose literally everything. Anything you want, you'll have to put on a stick or another drive.

PS. I would not EVER return a hard drive to anyone. IMO tell them to swivel for the old drive. Too much personal data on it.

either burn all your stuff onto CD/DVD
stuff it on a memory card
use a external HD and transfer everything over
use a online data storage site (not the best idea, uploading stuff on those tends to be slow)

USB drive or DVD depending on the amount of stuff you have.
