Harley's RB 182

Hi all, don't actually pick her up until Saturday but I've paid my deposit and will soon be enjoying her!

I always mean to start a thread like this when I get a new car, to keep track of things but I never seem to get round to it.

quick photo I took on the phone before having to drive home and leave her feeling neglected until I go back on saturday. :dapprove:

First thing on the list is to get all the belts done and treat her to a comprehensive service. Also might have to remove the stripes as the ones on the bonnet have some cracking.

I did notice something in the service book which I think said 'accessory belt' ? Think it was at 65k or something around that. not sure on that though as all the paperwork is still with the car.

When you say clean plates do you mean new plates or plates without the border/dealer name?

That will be the aux belt mate, drives the alternator if im not mistaken.

Cambelt is the main thing, £500 all in usually, and go to either a dealer or a specialsit ;)

Just new plates mate, without a border or writing etc...

RB love :)

Very nice, it's nice to see one with stripes for a change lol.
The headlights can be polished up using wet and dry paper (not too abrasive) and then a polish with a rotary of sorts.
Exhaust can be polished with some wire wool (fine grade) and autosol etc.

As said, get the cambelt done if it hasn't been! You don't want the bill if that goes..

Well I got it for a good price as the owner openly admitted that it needed a service etc, so have allowed myself a fair bit to get it all sorted properly. Am I right in thinking that it would be silly not to get the dephaser fitter while the belts are being done?

Cambelts fitted for £150 on any 4cylinder engine? Renault dealer too http://www.eastbilneygarage-dereham.co.uk/mot-service

I am very tempted by this although I do still need to give them a call. I know I should be going to a specialist but it just isn't really possible with the hours I work at the moment, and this garage pretty close to where I work.

If you have the funds, bet the both belts, the waterpump and the dephaser done at the same time, then its all sorted....

Wouldnt take it to anywhere other than a main dealer or a specialist on here TBH.

I'll give the Norwich Renault dealer a ring tomorrow too and find out some prices. Want to make sure this all gets done properly!

Enjoy it mate.

Would get the exhaust adjusted whilst it's in getting work done as looks like it's sitting in too much. Also the stripes look like aftermarket ones to me.

You're from Norwich?
I know a good place, they're not a specialist or MD but they've done loads, cracking mechanic too, they did a good job on mine. Good price too.

Other than that there cit-ren which is local

Renault prices are daft, I remember when I can my 172 cup they quoted me circa a grand for the cambelt and goodies.
A 172 cup is easier too due to no aircon!

Looks like a nice car although the exhaust looks like its pushed underneath the back bumper. :/

Might be the photo angle though.

Sam!

Picker her up yesterday and I am enjoying it soo much! Trying not to get too carried away until I've had the belts done but with the sound and feel it is hard not to!

Had to clean my golf up a bit to put on pistonheads so thought I might aswel give the clio a quick once over, might even get the polish out this afternoon.

Couple of questions, one of my headlights is really hazy and looks like it needs a good polishing, is it possible to get these looking new again? The nearside light has been replaced quite recently so would like them looking the same really.

Also, anybody who has removed their white stripes, do you find that the paint has faded on the rest of the car and you are left with a different shade of blue underneath where the lines were?

I know, I called them to ask if that applied to a 182 and they said that it would have to as that's what they have advertised and have to honour it. It is for a belt only though so will cost more with pulleys etc. Also thinking I want to get the dephaser done while they are there but it's not making any noise at all so I'm still undecided as to what I should do. Just waiting for them to get back to me with a price to do the whole lot now.

Decided to go for it and get the stripes off (and the Nurburgring sticker). I did like the stripes but the cracking really made the car look dated.

And I can't work out what this is? When you take the cover off there is a button at the top, the dock/port sort of rocks forward to allow you to put something in?

Also managed to get get lots of tiny marks out of the paint with a gentle cutting compound and got started on the offside headlight too but I ran out of elbow grease when it started raining.

Next step is to get the headlight looking new again and get the exhaust cleaned up when I find my metal polish.

The engine manage ment light did just come on though : /

Just booked in to get the cambelt and pulleys changed on Friday. Comes to £225 in total and they confirmed they are a genuine Renault dealership and have all the locking tools etc.

Opted out of getting the dephaser done as it is not making any noise at all at the moment and just don't have the extra money at the moment.

Just had a thought though that I need a stamp in my service book to bring it up I date, am I gonna have to pay them another £100ish just to get a stamp when I would rather just do it all myself?

its well worth getting the dephaser done if you can get the cash together, if it starts to fail a few months down the line then you will have to have the cambelt changed again
you need to use wet & dry sandpaper on your headlights to remove the hazing. just using compounds alone will take you forever and it wont look as good
i think there is possibly a guide on here if you use the search
car looks nice by the way now you have taken the stripes off

I know there's a good chance I might end up regretting it 6 months down the line but my money situation says no right now. And it sounds like a new engine to be honest, really smooth with no ticking or rattling.

I'm really pleased I took the stripes and stickers off, just looks soo much smarter now and the only thing showing its age is the headlight now so I'll get some wet and dry and tackle that one next.

I'm normally never too bothered about cleaning my cars other than the weekly/fortnightly wash and dry. But the blue is just so nice I feel that my only future plan for the car will be detailing.

Also, previous owner claims it has a miltek exhaust but after seeing photos of other clips on this forum fitted with miltek exhausts I am not so sure. I does still sound lovely though, quiet until you put your foot down
