has any body else found this?

Car  monaco blue 172
Hello everyone, when i bought my 172 it had a pipercross cone filter on,i decided to put the standard airbox back on,apart from the noise which it still has a nice sound to it with airbox on,the car seems alot smoother through the rev range, and seems a bit quicker and overall better to drive.I thought these cone filters where supposed to add a few bhp to your motor?I am now gonna leave standard air box as it feels a better car.I dont know if anybody else has found this?

^ yes! Not on my clio, but i had a pug 106 with a pipercross, had it on for about 12 mths, then was selling up so put it to standard, it went so much better it was unreal!

Without heat protection and a decent CAF (cold air feed) all youre gonna gain is noise.

Get a better filter for the standard airbox. ITG seem to be the most favoured.

Yeah it it feels such a different car,was thinking bout getting a replacement filter, how much do they normally go for?

Standard box, K&N filter + acoustic valve removal.
If you are going to spend the money on a good kit get a Maxogen.

yeah i found this too on my old vtr. i swapped from an open cone k+n induction kit to standard airbox with uprated panel filter and it drove much better.

have got an itg panel filter on my 172 with standard airbox now - drives great.

I too also found this. My car gained low down torque with an air box, but when on motorway it was more responsive with induction kit. I guess it depends on the airflow and density.

As always, some things are best left alone.

Really can't be arsed to f**k about removing pipes and installing 'cold air feeds' then driving around trying to convince myself the car is faster when it's not.

With the standard air box (accoustic valve fitted) my car made a whistling sound over 6000rpm so I fitted a 57i induction kit. Only cost £80, didnt bother with the cold air feed as the cone filter ends up under the front plate next to the radiator anyway, plus I didnt want to remove the sump guard. My car is now slightley more responsive, but then 90% of my journey to work is motorway/dual carriageway. The only thing I can fault is the abuse from other people who think I am thrashing the nuts off my car at 3000rpm due to the noise.

Without a cold air feed ull just be drawing in hot air into the enigine!!

Im looking to run a CAF from my from grill to the box, is it worth taking off the acoustic valve or will it not make a diffrence??
