has anyone put there sub in the spare wheel well?

  LY 182
if so how did you go about doing it?
origionally i was going to loose the sub as i was sick of it sliding about and it looked so out of place in the boot
but after a quick look tonight it near enough lays in the spare wheel well with about an inch taking off the box it will disapeer in to the well completely.
(i know changing the box size is wrong etc but its better than the setup i have now)
also - if i can manage to loose the box in to the wheel well, i want to hide the amp under one of the front seats - is it a problem for the subwoofer cable (the speaker wire i mean) to be that long?
cheers

nice- something along those lines is what im after
im hoping to do it with less weight involved though i literally want the sub just low enough so i can put the boot carpet over the top of it (see how bad it vibrates) then have it completely hidden.
main thing im not sure about is having the sub speaker wires that long as the amp will have to go under a seat

you cant put the carpet directly over the sub as it will damage the sub and stop it moving freely

in my old car ive had it like this... just a mdf box from 50x50x20cm in the space and direct the carpet over it... very simple... but works great... just have to say the box isn tightend yet so it looks like its al little bit higher then it was when it was ready

will it? is this the case even if i give it a decent air gap on top of it between the sub and the carpet?

you would need something to physically create a gap at least 2 inchs above the sub, and something to protect it as if you put something in your boot your crash the sub

about what you said about the wires dude...

It is always beest to keep wires short "particulary the earth"
It doesn't make a huge deal of differance and if possible in a normal setup (where the amplifier is in the boot) its best to run your positive wire down the drivers side, your phono leads down the passenger side and your remote straight down the middle.

This prevents interferance.

But in tearms of your box slippy slidding everywere theres a really clever thing you can do!

1. Take the sub box, amplifier and boot carpet out of the car.
2. Unscrew your sub and remove it from the box putting it somewere safe.
3. Measure so that your sub is directly in the middle of the boot carpet and pushed upto the back ( or were ever you want to put it)
4. turn everything upside down so the carpet (keeping it in the same place) is ontop of the upside down sub box and drill 3 holes threw your carpet and screw it to your sub box.
5. Turn it over, pop it back in, go and do a few handbrakes (joke) and i can garuntee it will still be in the same place

well i did it - quite pleased with how it came out only thing i dont like is that i couldnt hide the amp under a seat it was too big
but came out ok next week im going to make a carpeted ply false floor to go over the top and hide the lot
what you reckon

No problem running longer speaker cable, especially to subs as very little airborne or electrical distortion occurs at that operating frequency.

Putting carpet over the sub is like talking with your hand over your mouth so please dont do it!

Make a stealth floor so the sub has air under it - you can still use your boot then :)

If you use a loose box - BOLT IT DOWN!
