Ive read so much about this 4000rpm rattle Im wondering if Ive got it aswell? I do get a rattle at 4000rpm, normally when doing about 83 mph, more so than in the lower gears.

Ive tried listening out with the window open, as some of you say it sounds like a tractor, but I hear nothing.

Is it a recognisable problem with the dealers?

Any advice very welcome, cheers.

Id say you have it. 5 gear 80 odd mph and noise at 4000rpm which comes and goes as revs rise past 4000 or drops below 4000.

I had the center section replaced only for the rattle to come back 2 weeks later. The rattle has stopped after doing a further 6000 miles. I dont think replacing the center section will completely cure the problem as renault will only replace like with like, so youre only curing it for a short while.

IMO I think the exhaust just needs to bed in. If I had known this I wouldnt have taken it to renault to fix and they have to cut the exhaust off. The join between the back box and new center section is only held together with a sleeve which doesnt look too sturdy, although its held up so far, but may start blow in the future after its corroded.

4000rpm must be the resonant frequency at which the material the exhaust is made off.

It must be something weve not seen. Try running tachion sweep through the material and see what the sensor logs come up with.
