Having a major problem with colour coding.........

Car  Clive the Clio no. 2
i decided to have a go at spraying my door trims today,

so....

i took them off and sprayed them with 2 coats of grey primer.

then i sprayed it with the base coat and its drying a totally different colour to my car! :S

i bought the "hycote paint" and it says on the tin "renault pacific blue" which is the colour of my car, it even has my colour code on it (460)

its dried darker than the car,

have i done something wrong or is the paint the wrong colour or am i using a wrong primer?

Please help as it looks completely s**t

I can only assume that the colour is the wrong shade . Did you shake the aerosol really well ? Try going to a local motor factors or body shop suppliers that mix aerosols and get a can mixed up in pacific blue and see if there is any difference in shade to the hycote .

The primer you've used won't make any difference to the final colour .

i shook the can a few times,

does it make a difference if you put a different amount of layers on or if you wait different times between primer and paint?

guessing its just a diffrent shade mate...paint fades over time dont forget ;)

try geting a custom batch mixed up :)

Then you'll have p+p on top which will probably be half as much as the aerosol cost , lol . Just find a local motor accessory place and get it mixed there or Halfords .

Go to your local paint shop & ask him to mix it up for you, even though it's the right colour it's worth noting that there will be different shades of that colour.

the colour primer you use also makes a difference. if you white you will get a lighter / brighter finish that if you use grey

as said above, best to get it matched and mixed, i found out there was 3 shades for my colour

Trust me mate . Once you've applied a couple of colour coats the primer colour makes no difference whatsoever .

so i need to get some white primer and get my colour matched?

so if i nip down to halfrauds now, they will do it for me?

they should be able mix it for you but make sure they do a match and not just go with the code because of fade issues etc

i have just been to halfords and they have mixedmy paint according to my colour code.

so i bought 300ml of that for 10.99 and i bought 500ml of white primer.

^ you not see my quote ??

What you've got from halfrauds just going by the paint code could still be a bit out.

you dont want it mixed to the colour code mate, if youve already got the right colour and its off, then its either a: the wrong shade or b:your car is off colour, either weathered or been painted at some point in its life.

you wanna take your petrol cap off and get the colour mixed to match your car. you wont even need to give them the colour code.

my car is only a month old, so i doubt that it would of been repainted.

i got halfords to mix my paint, i have got pictures,

but i dont know how to post them on.

u'r better going to a paint supplier such as morelli as they have swatch cards which they will put against your car to get a more acurate match.

also some metalics appear different colours dependant on the angle they were sprayed at

willynwilson - Use a photobucket account etc & host from that.
The age of the car doesn't matter though. What FM & I are saying is correct.

- alex said the same too.

Never used photobucket but here we go!!

they need to be laquered, but i had to put them on the car because of the indicators.

Verdict??

Top pic the bump strips look a bit darker , the second pic doesn't look too bad .

Just what I was thinking. If they were laquered they might look a better match. They aren't that bad though.
