Hazard lights flashing randomly - 172?!?

  Cooper S JCW
I've had a read back through posts and can't find exactly the same problem so I thought I would post up the dilema.

I've got a mk2 ph1 172. On start up (usually when already warm) the hazard lights will flash 28 times and then stop for 45 seconds. It does this for about 10 to 15 mins. If I press the hazard lights on while they are flashing then it flashes in time with the fault and the hazard switch. It makes no difference if the keys are in or battery is on or if the engine is running!

It has done this 3 times now since I have owned the car in the last 2 months. I now just pull over and wait for it to stop :( but it is spoiling my fun - it is like having a fiat again!

Anyone shed any light please :S

Had this in my old car (peugeot) i replaced the switch, that seemed to work. It may just be a dodgy connection

as ben says check the fuse/relay

Not had this problem since my last post but it has started again yesterday and has done it twice - very embarassing having people constantly flashing you - anybody tell me where the fuse/relay lives please?

much appreciated :)
