HDTV - Is this news to you or are my friends/family a bit thick?

Conversations with my sister and a mate; both times went like this (talking about football)...

Me: "You should see the difference watching it on Sky Sports HD instead of normal SD - it's amazing".

Them: "What do you mean Sky Sports HD?"

Me: "I mean the Sky Sports HD channel on our Sky HD box"

Them: "Sky HD box?"

Me: "Yes - so that we can watch HD programs on our HD TV"

Them: "Yeah but I've got a Sky Box and an HDTV, it's brilliant"

Me: "It's not a Sky HD box you've got then?"

Them: "No it's a normal Sky+ one"

Me: "OK, you're not seeing HD then, you're watching normal TV on an HD capable TV"

Them: "No I'm not, it's an HD TV..."

If this is anything to go by, 9/10 people think that by buying an HDTV, they're watching HDTV, even without an HD input.

Should I disown my family and change social circles?

Thats like sticking a psone game in a ps3 and claiming it changes the graphics.

I'd go postal on their arses.

I have Sky HD and it looks fantastic even on my 15 year-old 14" Sony portable.

Must admit it's easy to be confused, retailers will miss-sell to get the stats up.

Personally I'm still getting to grips with widescreen...

Not met a person yet who has a HDtv that doesn't realise it needs a HD source.
