Headlight washer lamp leak - Non return valve fix

Hi there,

Currently my 182 likes to cry almost constantly out of both headlamp washers. I had a search and found a halfords non return valve. However I cannot seem to find it on their site anymore. Does anyone know where to get a pair?

Would something like this work..?

I never got how these worked. I just disconnected the motor and looped the hoses into each other.

Was about 7 months ago, but I would say most of there main stores should stock some, if not there online like the ones you linked.

If you find my project thread theres a picture showing which way round they should go for the flow.

I would just get the one on ebay but im not sure if thats the correct hose diameter...

That looks exactly like the ones i used, and i wont guarentee it but i would say thats the right size, the hoze diamater is pretty much 5mm and rubber flexible.

Fitted them today matey. Couldn't be faffed with removing the front bumper or arch liner so instead placed them near the washer bottle.

I filled up the water, gave the headlights a quick spray and then went for a spirited drive over some uneven roads and speed bumps. Seems to have done the trick

Surely the water in the pipes from the valve to the washer jet will still leak? I'd of thought it was better done as close to the washer jets as possible? Unless it creates some sort of vacuum from the valve?

Glad it's worked out for you, my valves are in the post somewhere along with a new waterbottle.

I think it is best to place them closest to the actual jet, but where he's placed them will probably be ok, The valves just create resistance so the water bottle cant just leak its way out of a weak jet.

I saw some other people had placed in it in the arch lining and some where I had. I think there is enough resistance inside in the headlight washer unit to hold the water up to the non return valve.

How badly were they leaking to start off with? I'm wondering if it's worth the hassle of taking the bumper off and doing the same as you!

Mine absolutely pisses out of the front passenger side so might not be so lucky.

I had it in the garage the other day and it created a puddle within an hour. Bottle empties from full in about 5 days. I'll update this with a longer test, currently hard to tell if its still working as it keeps raining...

If they where leaking that badly you need new washer jets (£13 each), the one way valves are to stop the excess water in the hoses dribbling out but if they where leaking I would get new ones.

inside the plastic casing there is a little ball and spring, when pressure is applied from the washer pump it will open the input of water and allow it past, then when the pressure is removed the spring will pop it back over the input stopping water from getting by

Anyone recommend a good non- return valve? Issue has returned to my driver side jet - I've replaced the washer and fitted a non return valve close to the jet, leaking again Either Renault's designed of the jets is useless or the non-return valve I've got is cheap rubbish.

I'm worried about this too. MOT is up in a couple of months and it's an MOT fail to have xenons and no washers. When I use the window washer, it pools up just infront of the drivers wheel so I'm guessing the hose has fell off or been taken off at one stage.

Anyone got a guide on how to remove the bumper? I had a search but couldn't see anything.

Sounds like disconnected hose or split to be that badly leaking. Be careful pulling the bumper off, have a towel on the ground to rest it on and be careful with cables such as those for fogs lights. Don't yank it off too hard. Hose for your washer jets should be fed below your top plastic grill.

Great, cheers man. Yanking the bumper from the wing sounds like a scary experience lol.
