Heated Mirror Fuse Blowing

  Civic Type-S GT
Hi all,

Got a bit of a strange problem with the heated mirrors on my 54 dynamique.

Electric mirrors work fine (can adjust) but the heated part is being weird. Basically if I turn on the rear demister, the drivers side mirror glass gets nice and hot but the passenger side stays stone cold. Then when i switch the demister back off (or the car does) the fuse for the heated mirrors blows.

I'm thinking its the passenger side causing this, electrics seem fine cos the mirrors can be adjusted so what could be causing it? Corroded element or something?

Cheers
Chris

could be a short circuit mate.. where the rear heated screen wiring passes from body to tailgate?? seen them rub through there.. ya need to go through the wiring diagram because theres probably more things running off that fuse.

could be many things

damn and I was hoping it was going to be fairly simple, time to get the haynes out I think!

Thanks for your help

if your still having problems il be back at work monday. if u need the proper wiring diagram il get it for ya. one other way is to stick a big split pin in place of the fuse and look for the smoke

yeah that would be great if you wouldn't mind, i dont think i'll try the split pin though, my car has electrical problems as it is, i dont wanna make it any worse lol

Got a test meter at all? The mirrors will go to ground with a set resistance across the heating element, if you can test the drivers side then the passengers side and see if theres a differentiation between the two. It might just be a case of a new passenger mirror glass as the heating element is shorting out.

yea i was jokin really...just bought a new snap on short circuit finder which could come in handy for that kinda job

Lol at the split pin.

I used to work with a farmer who was getting pissed off with the fuse tripping/popping on the Mig Welder at work.

So there was a pack of various screwdriver bits beside him (the small ones that go in the end of some screwdrivers).

I guess you know what i'm gonna say next ?

He used one of these in place of a fuse and it worked for about a half hour then it popped the transformr thing inside, then the bloody welder was fvcked

Lol :D

He got away with it though as his brother owned the company.

yeah i'll fetch my meter home from work on monday and give it a try, i was hoping it would just be something as simple as a new mirror glass, cheers for your help

I've had this problem too (both heated mirrors not heating) but my fuse is fine.

Just swapped the mirror glass over from Dad's Clio to check would they heat and it worked so I knew it was the glass.

New glass ordered :)
