Heated mirror

Car  FFFFFFFUUUUUUUUUUUU
I have a mk1 1.4 rt phase 3, and my driver side mirror doesn't heat up. Has anyone else had this problem or know how to find the problem and fix it?.

Cheers.

Wasn't too sure where to put it so I hope this is the right section.

I have this smae problem on my mk2 ph2. Drivers side doesnt work but passenger does. Havent looked into it yet though. Could just be a loose connection.

Anyone know if this is an expensive fix?

Just got my car back from the dealers today getting a few bits & bobs done under warranty. Mine was exactly as the1gardner has described above.

They said they had looked about and check things. Guy asked me to check it out and see if it was working when I picked the car up. Both mirrors aren't heating up now :(

Could be a loose or corroded connection onto the back of the mirror glass. Failing that, the glass itself may need replacing if the element has gone.

So it's just the actual glass then in worst-case-scenario?
That's not an expensive fix I guess, as the mirror glass isn't too expensive.

Guy said yesterday that warranty won't cover the heated mirrors - all very confusing :S

Yeah the heating element is bonded on to the back of the mirror glass, with two "spade" type connectors that attach it to the wiring loom coming from the base plate on the door.
If you turn on the mirrors when they are all misted up (such as when its foggy), you can see the outline of the element as it heats up the glass.

Yeah spotted that all the time in my dci Clio, just the heating part of the mirrors now have decided to play havoc and not work at all now.

How do I get to the back of the glass without breaking it to check the connections?
Thinking I could fit the glass from my Dads Clio to check if it is actualy the glass I need, then get it sorted :)

how the ballacks do you turn them on? I honestly didnt know I had them! Is it the heated rear window button?

Yes it's the same button as the heated rear window.

IIRC, to get the glass off, there should be a circular metal spring which holds the glass on the back plate. It is accessible by separating the two ends of the spring, situated behind the glass, but getting to them will be awkward.
If you get the mirror off, be careful putting it back on, as you can easily break the mirror glass.

EDIT: The above method of removal was from a previous car, not necessarily a Clio.
I found a picture of the back of a Mk.1 Clio mirror on eBay: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Genuine-Renau...eZWD1VQQtrksidZp1638.m118.l1247QQcmdZViewItem
This has what appears to be some sort of locking ring, which by the looks of it, is accessed at the bottom of the glass.

EDIT #2: I've just had a look at the 182's mirror, and it looks like it'd be a pig to remove without damaging it.
