it sounds like the same problem i've got & there's a post on here of how to fix it but I can't find it.
There's a cog which turns the flap that controls how much hot air passes over the matrix that snaps so when you turn the heat up and down the flap doesn't move so you either always have cold or always have hot air. You can fix it by sticking a cable tie or spring hose clip round the cog and it should work but it's meant to be very hard to get to.
Try searching in the older posts and if you find it, post the link as now the summer's over I'm desperate.
