Heatsheild Question

Hi

Sorry I might be being really thick here.

The heat shield that is attached to the back of the engine bay, for the manifold I think. Is it really needed? Mine is currently sat on the manifold as it has fallen off and won't re-attach, so can I just take it out? It makes an allmightly rattling noise everytime I downshift.

Just slightly worried about the carpet behind it and the heat in the engine.

Yes it is needed, unless you want to set fire to your car!!!!!
