Hello All

I currently own a high powered evo trackcar which is bleading me dry, so I have decided to break it and sell the parts and buy a cheaper track day car to have some fun and do some hillclimbs/sprints in.

I have decided to get a clio 172, strip it out, put a decent set of coilovers, brakes and roll cage etc etc.

If anyone can offer any guidance on what car to buy, what parts would improve it on track and any subtle engine mods to increase the power a bit it would be greatly appreciated.

All the best

Ian

Hello and welcome mate.
I'm sure clio will cost you a little less than EVO. Any pics though??

And on track

And here is a quick video of it on track.

As you can see it was a lairy car and a very wet track made it interesting

Oh, I forgot to mention.

I have bought a blue 172 cup (pick it up tomorrow).

Already ordered the roll cage, coilovers and sourced some 6 pot front brakes.

Looking for 8 lightweight alloys now if anyone has any suggestions.

Thanks

It was, not much left now as I am breaking it and selling the parts.

Engine went today.

In that video it was 530 BHP and 490 Ft/Lbs.

I bet that was hard seeing your pride and joy in bit's :(

Lol i bet that wasn't shy "excrement off a stick" comes to mind :approve:

What sort of price does 530bhp from an Evo cost ??? (if you don't mind me being nosey)

It was a bit nippy ;)

All in, that car stood me at over £20k.

Selling it as a whole car, I probably would have struggled to get £13k.

Breaking it I will get around £18k-£19k and still have some nice bits for the clio.

Just hope my seats fit in it as they are quite wide :(

When I have a bit more time, I will have a good search on here.

At the moment I am being inundated for parts from the EVO and don't want to lose the momentum with that.

Quite a few bits have now been ordered

Well I have picked it up.

Bodywork needs attention (quite a few scratches and the odd small dent) No rust though.

The engine sounds pretty bad, desperately need hydraulic lifters and a damn good service.

Happy with it though based on what I paid for it.

Set of these coilovers are being made for me, and have a set of black F1s coming tomorrow.

Does anyone know if corbeau revolutions fit in clios? I have an XL one for the driver's seat and a standard one for the passenger side.

Probably going to need a pro series for the passenger side I reckon.

I'm swinging toward Jap for my next car an Evo is top of the list ;)

£20k  i bet it was worth every penny though :D

F1's bought and K-tec Group N engine and gearbox mount ordered.

Will be going for Cam Belt, lifters, dephaser pulley and full service this week.

Looking forward to this coming together now.

I should be on seller's commission from K-Tec lol
Dont forget your 5% discount.

People say these are good, haven't had any experience with one though

Well, not much left of the evo now :(

This is the latest pic of the clio.

I had to buy a new engine for it, as the one it came with was totally paggered.

So, cam belt, dephazer pulley, full service, brembo HC discs and carbone lorraine pads all round, group N engine and gearbox mounts and a new torsion thingy.

My mission tomorrow is to fit two of these

And this

I take it the standard wheel with the airbag is difficult to remove????

First event is 8th and 9th May at Harewood Hill. Unfortunately the coilovers aren't ready yet, so will be doing it on standard shocks.

Christ ian,,
I thought the engines were meant to be bullet proof,,,
What did you do just source 1 out of an ordinary 172...

Hello mate, welcome to CS :)
I can see why the evo bled you dry watching that vid, that kind of power aint cheap.......thats why i steered away from buying a supra and opted for the clio instead :)

They probably are if you run oil in them :S

I can't begin to tell you how much that engine had been neglected. Cams were very badly scored, as was the head. Had oil in the inlet. The oil pump area was covered in silicone. The dephazer pulley was knackered. The oil filter looked years old, had gone a shiny coppery colour.

So out with the old and in with a 60k warrantied engine from a 172.

Yes I see what you are saying but I am starting to get carried away with this and wanting daft gearboxes and diffs etc etc.

Need to give my head a wobble and just make it sensible.

So, Quaife LSD and throttle bodies it is them

That looks really nice.

I will be looking at doing something in July, so hopefully the mad rush for those will be finished and we will have some unbiased reviews to go off.

Thanks for showing me that.
