Having owned a number of vags this is my first step into Renault territory.

Will be getting a black 172 tomorrow (against my wifes wishes) so hoping to be able to use this site to increase my knowledge

cheers bud. Can't wait to pick up the car tomorrow afternoon. Highish mileage but from what I understand the engines are pretty bullet proof. This will be my fasted standard car yet so am looking forward to getting this on a few country roads. perhaps a few subtle mods in the future!

Any recommendations for the keeping the car in good condition?

These 172's are great cheap little cars. You will enjoy the way you can throw the clio about in corners compared to vags.

yep fast through the corners and off the lights. Is standard spec suspension up to the job or should I start looking for an aftermarket setup?

struggled to find a decent one in my budget. there was one cup for sale but this had poor body work alot of dents, sideskirt wasn't fitted correctly and the alloys had seen better days. So ordinary 172 which keeps the Mrs happy as it has abs.

Standard suspension is absolutely mint mate on the road it's comfortable and handles corners brilliantly. i wouldn't want my car any stiffer at all on the road.

Welcome! Regarding keeping the car in top nic, just make sure it's serviced when it needs it and that belts are still within their mileage. Other than that, get over to the detailing section for keeping it clean!

Picked up the car yesterday. what can i say big smiles when you plant it. My step son is a talker and never shuts up until i hit the gas

cars had recent oil and filter change- new rear discs/ pads. I'm waiting to get the full history for the car but looks like it has been serviced regularly at the same garage.

Only one little niggle is that the washer motor doesn't appear to work -so will investigate this today

Yep having given it a good blast yesterday totally agree car sits nice and feels connected to the road

Make sure belts have been done mate. . If not is recommend Andyrg he is based your way.

Belts are every 60,000? but will probably get them done anyhow to be on the safeside

Hiya mate, timing belt is due every four years or 72k miles, whichever comes first - IIRC.

Andy works for DTM Cars who are a trader on here. He worked on my car for the first time today and I would not hesitate to recommend them to anyone. I will definitely be returning to DTM for any future work. Both him and Trev are very pleasant to deal with as well which I value highly.
