Help 16v stutter





my car when cold. and around 2 - 2500 revs holds back and jumpy judders like a stutter. jerks me about a bit then jumps foward and drives fine again. any idea? sometimes does it a few times when cold in a row like. then when i pull up, it sometimes cuts out! almost as if its trying to cut our at 2000-2500 revs too i guess ????? help??

both my valvers and one with 2 diff engines hav all done this when cold i thort it must jus be a valver thing

as long as it still goes well when warm i wouldnt worry

its scary! when u go to accelerate and your car pauses b4 jumpin fowards! can be dangerous too if i need to go quick!
 


Im no expert but Id start with the basics 1st...

When was the last service?

Clean the plugs and check gaps - they wont fire as efficiently when cold.

Dont know about Renaults but a lot of Fuel injected motors have Oxygen sencors and the like to monitor gases and adjust the fuel mixtures as the car warms... might be one of the sensors fibbing...

Otherwise might be fueling issue...

i get round it by lettin car warm up for 2 mins before it leaves the drive it only does it when i jump in and drive the car from cold and doesnt do it for long

no not dizzy cap actually but i checked its fine. would the idle control valve cause this problem if i was moving at the time?

Well my valver does this even when it is warm, seems to only do it when theres a full car loada people. its f**king scary when ur doing 70 on the m-way and it jolts like that. not sure what revs it does this at though. also it used to cut out when cold under normal driving and this was fixed by having a new thermostat put in. Dunno if this helps??

Mine used to untill i had the injectors cleaned, magnicore leads amd a pbv fitted at hillpower. Think it was probably the leads that caused it though.
 


Ben, has it just had an oil change by any chance?

If so, its most like to be oil that has been spilt and has gone into the plug wells.
 


no it aint tom. and leads are brand new too steve and richy even at low speeds i worry bout it! so i aint surprised its scary!

how often does it do it mine only really does it in cold wether and by the time ive turned out of my close gone down a rd half a mile long over a load of speed bumps which u have to go really slow over anyway its stopped it

possibly moisture getting in the engine ?

when its warmed up the moisture has evaporated so it runs sweet,

does it mis fire ?

id change coolant temp sensor most likely to go down and cause the problem

i just put up with it because it isnt freqent and doesnt affect performance
 


if there cheap just replace em/ or borrow them off another valver locally?????

you can check them, but u will need to know the operating resistances that not many people will know!

Rather than playing trial and error, you would probably be better getting it plugged into a computer at a garage, theyll tell you where the fault is in half an hour!

haynes manual tell you resistances at certain temps not much good as the valver temp gauge has no numbers onit

coolant temp sensor only a few quid i think i did buy 1 a while back cant remember exactly how much tho

i had this and made my car off the off for about 3 weeks

did it all, new leads new plugs new dizzy an d rotor ect ect

changed almost every sensor too plus paid for diagnostic too,

all mine was was a lose earth, i felt like smakshin the damn thing up as it seemed no one could ever fix it
 


LOL - think i better check me earths wongy then too! what earth was loose?



where are the main points of earth too round the car?
 


right there are i think in total 6

now im not sure but mine was a gearbox one that worked itself loose

could be that but mine was seriously pissing me off as one garaged wanted to take the head off and take a lookk at that, saying nit was a timing problem!!!!!!!
