HELP! Cambelt change using tool MOT 1801

  Black Gold Trophy
This was supplied to me as the correct timing belt tools for a 182, however I understand the manual advises tool MOT-1509 + MOT-1509-1.

Everything seems similar however I cant get it to fit because the shouldered nut of tool MOT-1509-1 does not slot into the hole of tool MOT-1801 to secure it to the stud on the head!

The strange thing is it does fit on the other side where the toothed bolts are to hold the pulleys in place, it seems renault have put a very slight lip on it to stop it going in.

Do I need to file some off or is there a special way to get it to fit?

managed to get it to fit after looking at the guide here and seeing it should fit in so just filed it out.

The renault guide says its essential to change the nuts/bolts and dephaser seal when slackening them off, does everyone else do this? I bought "all the necessary parts" but it doesnt include the replacement nuts/bolts and seal

na don't worry about the de phaser seal, it'll be fine, as will the dephaser bolt and exhaust pulley nut

^ haha! beat me to it! Just pm'd you as I saw u were online!

People on here say that slackening off the pulleys "normalises the tension" but I swear after doing it myself it looks to me like it is done just to make the timing more accurate as none of the sprockets run keyways?

Mine was exactly the same, I sent them back, Renault said it was a manufacturing fault apparently (on the most recent batch)... They would have had to go back to france, be checked then new ones sent out, couldnt be bothered with the hassle...

So I did the same and filed the little lip off, perfect now!

^ Thank god, I don't feel like such a cowboy after all! It worked perfect after a little file!

Good old renault! lol

the lower hole with the "special nut" on the pulley tool? that what your on about?

when new the nut doesn't fit the tool and the hole has to be filed, all the ones i've used are the same

mine fitted fine 1st time (new 3 months ago) and Andys old one was replaced due to wear about 6 months ago, and that fitted bang on too. Odd

Yeah shame that, you pay good money for genuine tools and you have to muck about sorting out Renault's poor manufacturing standards!

I couldnt get hold of a snap on aux belt tool in the end so used a 3/8 drive breaker bar and a 3/8 sump plug key, was a bit fiddly but worked ok!
