Help choosing a Tv

I'm after an lcd/plasma for my living room, here's a criteria:
Must be 100hz or more, must have full HD 1080, must be 40' or bigger.

What options do I have? Cheaper the better obviously.

New Pana Plasma's are awesome. We usually recommend/sell Pioneer's to customers but a lot have been saving money and buying Pana's.

We even had to say that on HD there is that much of a difference in picture. The DVB however is as good if not better!

I'd buy that! Pity empire-direct.co.uk went bust as would be cheaper with them.

Friend has a 7 Series Samsung LCD which is 100Hz and 1080p and he loves it.... I think it cost the best part of £1000 though.

Also, do plasma tvs really use 4 times the electricity of lcds?

I have bought a couple of pana's from John lewis.
They usually price match anyone and chuck in some extra warranty.

What sources will you be using with it ? PS3/360/Sky SD/HD ect ?

Currently don't have blueray or sky hd, but they will come in time. Just got normal sky plus and xbox 360 for now

@ 40" + i would always go for a plasma
They handle Sd far far better and when you make the change to HD the picture is awesome.
I would always stick with Panasonic, I have owned/installed a number of sets and the pana's always standout. Yeah you might get a slightly better picture in HD with a samsung set but i installed a 32" LCD for a mate and he went through 4 sets in 10 months....!
This is a nice Tv - another plus for John lewis is Free 5Yr warranty and delivery, I know Richer Sounds have this set @ £749 so you might get em to price match it!

Prices seem to be creeping up slightly.....
I can only imagine that this is due to the fall of Empire Direct as they used to knock these out for a lot less than anyone else.

That's looking like a good contender atm actually, I measured how big the 46' looks on the wall and it's massive! 42 would be perfect, especially considering the fact I'll be viewing SD for the moment until I get the blueray gear etc.

Where's the cheapest place for a decent stand?

Haggle it in with the Purchase of the TV...... My GF's Parents bought a TV from Richer Sounds and haggled the Bracket for 1/2 price so a saving of £45 IIRC

Also try and get them to stick in the Warranty for free as they know JL throw in Free Extended Warranty so just say you will go there if not

Where do you live?
I used a guy on ebay for brackets and stands, that turned out to be the sony shop in Huddersfield!

Got a £600 stand for £120
