Help - Clio is Rubbish - Should I try to Get It Fixed Or SELL

Got a 1999 V Reg 1.4 Clio for the other half 6 months ago. In that period there has been problems changing gears. Got that improved as I got a Mechanic who said the Gear Linkages are prone to ceasing, so he sprayed loads of lubricant on it which improved it. In the last 3 months its been stalling at junctions , traffic lights etc when the engine is cold. Then last Week it Broke Down. Would hardly tick over, kept revving, and also backfiring . Got it to a Tuning place who fixed it saying the MAP Sensor need replacing. Got it back yesterday, and although its fixed the COMPLETELY KNACKERED AND WILL NOT RUN' issue its back to its previous state of cutting out at junctions. Its A little worse than a couple a months ago and Sounds a little Rougher, but that may be down to the exhaust slightly leeking now due to all the pressure off the backfiring on its latest major fault. The Back Brakes now stick on, if leaving it for a couple of days, which ive been told will need to be stripped down to be repaired. I know from these forums that trying to cure the Stalling could cost a fortune trying every method to cure it.
I know I cannot really sell it privately now. I was gonna put a 12 months MOT On it and put it in a Car Auction that is near us. What do yous think???

Depends What you think of the car if you auction it you might end up with the same problems or worse on a new car its always a risk.

I am up in Sunderland so Sunderland Too Far Away.
The Car looks immaculate in Silver, With just 57k on the Clock.
Just had the Timing Belt Changed and Full Service. Shame the Workings are crap, haha. I am gonna have to back to the Tuning place Tomorrow as tryed it today and is stall at every junction imaginable so I wouldnt even be able to put it in the Auction like that. Do you think The Garage may have NOT Replaced the sensor and only Cleaned it. As I was Charged £70 all together. £35 for for the Diagnosis Test and £35 for Parts and Labour. I thought the Sensors were more expensive. Cheers

people will buy anything at an auction, just dont expect to get a very high price for it...if its playin up

  Looking for a 1.8 16v
i had the same problem on my clio it kept stalling and would barely tick turned out to be the idle valve control had gone

Its Fixed!!!! Yeeha. Took it back today and they cleaned out the Throttle Body And Its Fine now. The Revs Still drop low when stopping junctions, but not noticable if I didnt look at the Rev Counter.
Sounds like what you Said Uzi. They said if it comes back then I will need to get a New Throttle Body. Is the the Idle Valve Contol in the Throttle Body or part of it??

Its Not Fixed, haha. It Doesnt Like Cold Mornings. It Still Cuts out about twice for the first 2 mins of driving and then its fine. So I still We looking to Get Rid. Do you Reckon I should Still put it in an auction.
Any Idea What I would Get. I was Hoping for between £1200 - £1400. Paid £1600 For it which I Thought was a Bargain at the Time so Im willing to take a loss on it now.

Don't sell it mate just because of a slight recurring issue. You have gone to the hassle of diagnosing the fault and have the most probable offender in the throttle body/ICV. Strip down the throttle body/idle air control valve and see how that goes as you can probably cure the issue for the cost of a can of WD40, some carb cleaner and an hour of your time.

I don't think so but it's not too difficult. Remove the inlet hose from the throttle body, remove any connectors leading to the throttle body and unbolt. I am not sure of the exact layout of the 1.4 engine but if you take your time, you shouldn't have any issues.

Ill Give it a Go. Do you know at all what type of Socket I need to take the Air Pan off,and what special bolts maybe on the Throttle Body itself.
Thanks For the Fast Reply

I Did get a Mechanic To Clean the Housing out. He also Mot'ed it. Replaced the Back brakes and exhaust. Its Excellent now. Well Almost.
It Still has problems now selecting 1st gear etc. And the ABS Braking system Makes a noise when you sometimes press the brake
