help ... Complications

  1.6 Astra ... R.I.P. 182
this is really complicated guys so bare with me.

i bought my car (182) in november and got told it was registered in march 05 and had 2 years warranty etc as its an import.
its registered as a trophy on the arnold clark system ... and my sales invoice states this.
when i bought it i took out an extended 1 year warrenty on top of the 2yrs it had so the warrenty would run till march 08
i have just phoned reno uk and been told its actually a uk car registered in sept 04 so has the full 3 years warrenty etc but was exported and then reimported apparently.

so now my car has a warrenty untill sept 07 with everything else like assistance etc.
but what about my extended warrenty ? should i be entitled to a refund ? or should it continue from sept 07 untill sept 08 ?

do you all get and understand this ?? lol i dont :S

  Octavia VRS
I would think you are entiteld to a refund mate unless they give you guarantees that you will have the warranty until 2008

How much was it? As the service intervals are 12 and 24k miles, or every 2 years, your only likely to need one unless you doing big miles.

Could you see them rubbing their hands and laughing as you drove away? lol :clown:

i got service 1 (12k) and 2 (24k) for £270.
think i was the one that was laughing. plus i got the car cheap.... still cheaper than older higher mileage ones are going for just now.

ok it gets worse.
apparently my car is an 04 plate according to reno uk and a 05 plate has been stuck on it.

but the extended warranty will run from the end of the standard warranty untill 1 year later which is a plus point.

I'd be more bothered about doing Arnold Clark for fraud if that's the case. Best to be 100% sure though as Renault aren't always right either.

Did they tell you that from the VIN number?

It could be an EU import, built to be registered in it's country of origin in 2004, but didn't actually get registered until 2005 in the UK. That might explain why Renault think it should be an 04.

  1.6 Astra ... R.I.P. 182
yeah from my vin number.

reno said it was reg in uk but then taken out of uk and brought back :S

That's very confusing. I think you're going to have to some serious digging. I'd hope Arnold Clark what's going on.

so basicaly it appears i have bought what i think is an 05 plate car which is infact an 04 plate car

reno uk say its an arnold clark problem. arnold crap say its a dvla problem :S

I reckon it was built and ready to be registered in 04, but can't have actually been registered until March 2005, otherwise someone somewhere is breaking the law big time. Unless the DVLA have made a cockup.

I used to have a Pug 306 GTi-6 which was originally registered on an R plate, but the deal fell through last minute, and when it was actually sold it was on an S plate. So esentially the car was a 97R, but wasn't registered until a 98S.

  1.6 Astra ... R.I.P. 182
hmmm

ive been on the phone now to dvla who say it was only registered once and the was in march 05 and thats it. said to go back to reno.
which i have and have been on hold for 15mins so far after the girl i spoke to said "emmmm ok i dont know what to do, are you ok to hold".

ok im off hold and she says "i still dont know, its possibly a mistake on our system, can i take your number and ill call you back later, wont be today though"

ahhh damn.

I reckon my last explanation sounds most likely. It's a late registered 04 built car. Could have sat around as stock for a while.

Hope you get it sorted.

  Octavia VRS
sounds a farce tbh! Doesn't sound like RUK have been much help. Hope you get it all sorted, but will probably mean much running around for you unfortunately

  tiTTy & SV650
Arnold Shark have no interest in helping you after you pay for the car from my experience. hope you get it sorted!

I paid for 3 years servicing (45k miles, whichever comes first) for £395 I think, it's hidden in the finance anyhoo it's nice to not pay when you pick the car up from its service.

  1.6 Astra ... R.I.P. 182
ok so if reno uk come back to me and say yes ok it was registered in march 05 and you have 3 years warranty from then on, what about my 1 year extended warranty ... would that run as an extra year on top of the 3 years or is it just not valid ?? ill ask arnold crap once i know the outcome of the ren uk situation.

  1.6 Astra ... R.I.P. 182
UPDATE :

Not going too well. im really :S as what to do now.
all renault uk are saying that the car was bought in sept 04 and not registered untill march 05 and the warranty starts from sept 04.
all dvla docs and v5 etc all say march 05.

can i do anything about this ? or will i just have to leave it ?

EDIT : also part of the main question of the thread the extended warranty start date is 29/03/07 until 28/3/08 but the standard warranty expires in sept 07. so should i be due a refund ? or extension ?

As far as I know, as Renult UK have said, the warranty on the car starts once it's sold in it's country of origin. My import 172 had already had 2 months used as the car was sold abroad in December, then registered in the UK in March. It sounds like a similar situation with yours.

So is your cars reg going to have to change ?? 05 to 04 ?? not suprised your confused mate ..

Maz :)

No, the reg is purely down to when the car is registered for British roads. Which is why Strombas Williams 1 is on a P plate.

So your concern is the extended warrenty you have paid for ??

I would be asking for my money back mate and if AC are playing silly buggers just mention trading standards .. if that don't make them sort it .. go to TS and seek advice .. sounds like you are well within your rights to me .. (but what do I know .. lol)

Maz ;)

PS if I have misunderstood .. lol I will shut up :quiet: I am sure Lee will tell me if I am wrong :rasp: lol

lol i suppose i should make the comment of 'get a room' :rasp: jus kidding.

i phoned AC and they have agreed to change the dates on the extended warranty but will only change them to 29/3/08 to 28/3/09 so im left without a warranty from sept 07 until march 08 .....which i can accept because then there will seem to be a longer warranty when i come to sell :D and i can just wait for any warranty claims until the cover dates.

weird one that.

Agree with Rory, Arnold Calrk cant be arsed with stuff like this once they completed the sale.

  Citroen DS3 DSport
The warranty should apply from the date the car was 1st registered and not when the dealer bought it. Renault UK should be able to confirm this but it doesn't sound like they've helped much so far.

It seems silly that AC will opt to leave your car without a warranty for a 6 month period. I'd shout at them some more and threaten legal action via Citizens Advice. The car is currently not matching the description they told you when you purchased it so they could be guilty of misdescription under the Sale of Goods Act.

  1.6 Astra ... R.I.P. 182
yeah im not happy with renault as i believe the warranty should start from when the car is registered :S but i dont know who to speak to about this now ??

also AC dont have a clue about it, the guy was well confused when i told him about the warranty. but he still believes the warranty should start from when the cars registered and thats why the extended warranty will be from march to march.
