The warranty should definately start from date of registration. It seems that Renault have incorrect info on their system which they need to ammend.

the guy i spoke to was an unhelpful b*****d ... just kept saying the warrenty is from sept 04 and thats the way its going to stay as we wont change it.

should i get back onto them ?

Does [SIZE=-1]Claire Atkinson still work for Renault UK? If so it's possibly worthwhile asking her to deal with your complaint as she seemed to help lots of people on Parkers forum in the past.
