help! improving my shots on an overcast day

Firstly, i know very little about photography
when its sunny i find i can get decent pics relatively easy
but like today an overcast and dull day
my shots came out a bit like this, much i can do to improve them?

im using a very basic DSLR (sony alpha 290 with standard 18mm-55mm lense, also have a 55mm-200mm lens)

you may have to talk in basic terms as im just getting used to it all :p

You need to do some post processing for sure. Adjust your contrast and brightness etc. You could also use filters to get some definition to the cloud but if I'm honest. I just wouldn't shoot on a day like that lol. And if you do try to show as little sky as possible.
 
Whenever I see pictures of your car and the car-wheel size ratio, all that comes to mind is this picture:
