HELP! Just had my some work done...

  Clio 182
Hi Guys,

A little help/reassurance needed!

The 182 went into Cit-Ren (Norwich) which is a reputable specialist according to the forums today as the PAS pump was on its way out. Decided to get all the belts done and water pump done at the same time as its done 54K but is 6 years old and the guy suggested it because of the work involved to get to the pump. Got quoted £420 for everything including VAT so I was a happy bunny knowing what Renault charge.

Anyway, picked it up and have driven back to my mums in Essex (about 60 miles) and it sounds like a different car! It really pulls and roars which is marvellous, however it didn't before! The only thing I can suggest it sounds like is as though the air filter hasn't been put on correctly or there is a whole in the exhaust??? Can anyone shed any light as to what it might be? I'm taking it back tomorrow morning as the guy said he had rushed to put it back together (due to a pipe leading to the PAS pump being cracked and the new one had to be ordered and fitted today).

Any replies tonight would be greatly appreciated for when I go back tomorrow morning.

Thanks guys,

Mikey

Open bonnet and track down the noise ?! You'll need a friend to rev it as you've no butterfly to twist. Should be pretty obvious where it's coming from !

Airfilter id have thought, this happened with mine. Looked to be fine but the underside wasnt attatched on properly so it was un noticed for ages.

Its a bit late now to try and locate the sound, I'll explain to the garage tomorrow and hopefully it will be sourced.

Is this gonna cause any damage if its left not fitted properly? I kinda like the sound...a lot.

Without sounding like a total idiot, is it normal for cars to feel quicker after the belts have been changed?

No idea on damage id like to know that too as the car sounded better with the filter on wrong.

Could be quicker as the timing could have been out slightly before meaning less power, although I today decided to fill my petrol tank completely and I think it goes faster now, but in reality it would be slower due to the extra weight :rasp:

I thought that as well when I filled up after the garage! But I always fill to the top so maybe it's all in my head

Hopefully a clued up mechanical guy will pop up and tell me this is what it should feel and sound like - welcome to the world of the 182!

Yes - air may get into the cylinders and EXPLOOOODE !

It could be quicker if the timing wasn't correct in the first place, however there's a good chance you're just suffering from the placebo effect of having servicing done.

;)

My timing was out and mines faster now.

My friend went to jms a while ago I think to get a remap, he was 20bhp down on original rolling road session and that was because his timing was out! (mixed with a faulty dephaser)!

Can make alot of difference!

Also if it's "roaring" it may just seem faster...

TheEvilGiraffe / Mister_G AKA my clued up mechanical guys!

Cheers fellas. Will go back tomorrow and suggest the air filter might not be fitted properly and see what the guy says.

I'll sleep easy! :D

Hope you're not going to do a 120 mile round trip for him to clip the airbox on correctly ?? You don't need a degree in mechanical engineering to do that yourself.

I live and work in Norwich but have come back to Mumsy's as I have a doctors appointment tomorrow - not got round to changing GP's yet cos I'm lazy, so no not going back just to get the 182 sorted.

I'm currently in Saffron Walden - near the borders of Cambridgeshire and Hertfordshire.
