I didnt even know the 255 was made in 2002? I thought the first ones arrived mid 2003. Mines No.9* and its a 2004.

Could be wrong:oops:

2002? Must be quite an early one. I would look for tyres, brakes, and full service history. Maybe also check for paint overspray etc. I havent heard of any real problems with the 255.

It is probably me being wrong, the father in-law saw it, so he may be guessing.

Any help is needed though, it is going for £17k good condition on the outside apparently.

Most V6s are well looked after "on the outside" Keep a few quid by for wear and tear items.

So if im looking at anything anything before a 53 plate it would be the MK1 Version.

Wear and tear is no problem, as we were looking at an GTR R33 V-Spec before the V6 Clio, but me and the woman decided the V6 Clio would be the better option at the moment, as we cannot afford Clutch replacements every 15k on the Skyline.

I certainly will do, but i will post our MkII 172 pics up as well before we sell it.

The woman will be driving her as i cannot drive, but she likes speed, the faster, the bigger the sound, that is for her.

So soon i will be one of the V6 owners (fingers crossed)

Some of those prices are crazy. The first one is £30k:eek:

And one of them mentions an 8 month wait? I waited 2 weeks from a Renault dealer. And got 2k knocked off without any hassle.

Knobbers.

Yeah i know what a joke, i had a look on Autotrader. £30K, i thought they were £28k not £30k?

It is a private sale, but judging those prices it must be a 2002 plate then, noway am i going to get a 255 for £17k, Shame, will it be possible to get 255 out of the early model.

That one is new (126 miles) and has the full id pack which costs another £3k ish... hence the price

I did not realise that.

Well i will be happy if it the MKI or the MKII, always dreamed of owning one when the first mentioned them on Top Gear years ago, doing the Monte Carlo race with them, and originally only 500 were going to be sold in the Uk due to the high cost.

So watch this space, my dream could come true??:devilish:

  Meg on pistonheads £6995

MUST be mark 1 - seen a few around 16 or 17K

some Mk 1s on very late plates 03, 53 cos 255 better, and many earlier cars still unregistered.

Well that is true, they are very rare cars indeed.

even now Renault only make 400 right hand drive versions for the UK each year.

Simon.

How many are roughly around in the UK then? Obviously all 400 each year cannot be sold.

Do they have some sort of ID number e.g. 1 of 400 or something along those lines?

I have only seen one 255 V6, and that was this morning in Hythe, Kent. First time i have seen it.

Bad News,

I have just been told that some youngish girl has just bought the bloody car, im so peed of, not happy bunny.

On the Search again.

Get the Skyline then - clutch replacement every 15k sounds pretty unreal unless you are going to spend your life sidestepping the clutch at the 8.2k rev-limit. Look to rebuild a twin-plate OS Giken for example every 30k assuming track use.

v6 = good, Skyline = in a different league. Before this starts a flame war I do own both cars so this is a relatively informed opinion!

I thought the last count a couple of months ago for the MK1s in the UK was around 250 and 190 MK2s. Sure someone will have the right figures here somewhere!

You can buy new phase 2 V6s online for under £24k ! Were just starting to see a few more second hand phase 2s appearing on the Auto trader now, 4k miles at around £21.5k .. if I remember rightly.. well worth a look.

Good luck... and welcome to Cliosport.

ohh... knew there was summing else.. what to look for when buying a mk1?

Since day one, its been spot on for me... they are still covered under warranty... so shouldnt worry too much, havent heard of anyone having anything serious to worry about.. get the latest model you can afford..to be assured of a long warranty remaining (3 years from new). Rear tyres will need replacing every 12k miles..(just changed mine) and not that cheap.. so make sure theres some life left onem. Nothing mechanical should be a prob.....and oil wont even need topping up between servicing.. enjoy!

V6Max, are you on the GTROC forum as well as being on here? if so im a Mbr too

I have found another 2 which sound quite good both 52 plates, one has done 16k the other 13k both fsh, however one is £15995 the other is £17500. Do you reckon the 17500K would do a deal for cash.

i was in your shoes matt 1 month ago, looking for the right car. i even viewed an unregd mk1 in a dealer, it got sold to someone for £19995 as an 04 reg!

there are a few mk1s available for £16-£17k. if you can afford the extra money the nthe mk2 is nice, but the mk1 IMO is under rated mainly beause the critics havent driven one to know any better.

mine hasnt covered enough miles t ohave anything wrong, so i cant advise what to look for, but the obvious things like service history, and good tyres and brakes should be checked, and do a HPi check. also look for any accident damage, and corroded wheels! my lacquer is coming off and others have had the mk1 wheels refurbed, so i think it may be fairly common.

Why do you call your wife/girlfriend "The Woman"? I hope my husband doesnt call me "The Woman"!!

Cheers mate, it is a matter of finding one though, an un-reg one would be hard to come by, unless you know where i could find one.

It is not my week though, looked at a GTR R33 V-spec on Saturday, got a phone call yesterday telling us it had been sold, my luck is not in at the mo. The 172 just has not got the grunt anymore that we require out of the car.

Yes it is me on GTROC as well - like this site pretty invaluable as a source of good information about what too and what not to buy etc!

People will always deal for cash! What I want to know is how people have only done 13k in a 52 plate car. I picked mine up last February 9th 2003 and I have just got it back from a 36k service :)

Some stuff to check is; paint work on the front. Renault paint the car with felt-tip pens and the finish falls off really easily so watch out for that. Check the brake pads front and rear - I dont know what front pads from Renault cost but the rears are 198.00 inc vat/exc fitting! Check the rear tyres - you will go through them quicker than you may imagine. Check the front tyres although I got to 20k before I had to replace them. Watch out for uneven tyre wear as well and check the toe (tracking).

iwantav6 is right about the Mk1 Vs Mk2 thing - the Mk1 is not the devil in disguise that many would have you believe. You need to learn a different style of driving and if you drive it the same way you drive a FWD you will get a slap from the car.

Mines had quite a hard life :) and yet it has only ever needed the Renault services, it has never consumed any oil in between services. It has not gone wrong and I have not broken it. It also has not tried to kill me everytime it has rained.

I would sell the Skyline but not the Clio v6!

Hi yeecup, yes you are correct i do not drive i have epilepsy so i will have to wait until March 23rd 2005 before i can apply. im 23 years of age. The car i will not be driving my partner will be, She is 24, but will be 25 on the 2nd of September. So i find out as much info as possible, It was my idea that we bought the MKII 172, Then she wanted a Skyline, but she has always liked the V6 Clio.

good luck on hunting one down mate. i have still to see one in the flesh but would love to own one. the wife wont go for it though, no room in the back for our son! sounds like your missis knows her cars though, my wife doesnt drive (thank god) and thinks a clio cup = taxi.

Yep my partner knows her cars, I like cars big time, She drives them hard and fast, how some cars should be driven, so we share a good understanding. Shame your wife is not interested though mate, feel for ya.

Girl Racer if i caused offence, sorry. My partner is a woman, but i will refrain from calling her that on here, sorry to offend other women users.

Matt

matt,

when you do buy one, your partner will need to learn the car. its frightening at first, the back steps out too easy, but can be learnt to control, and on motorways at 70mph+ the front end can feel light and vague, but im used to it now. if im doing a long mway run, i like to let a few psi out of the front tyres to eliminate the light feel abit, and it doesnt compromise handling either.

the skyline is a different beast, and ofcourse a monster car for power, but in my eyes, the clio V6 is the only car i want to own at this moment in life.

ive had a few probs but these are due to the car not being driven for 2 years. i had a driveshaft pop and loose gear oil, a lambda problem is which it was running excessively rich and low on power intermittently, and a corroded wheel, all sorted under warranty thank god, to which expires in september, and ive extended it for a further year for £498, well woth it IMO as my car has only covered 4k so hasnt passed the niggly problematic stage that new cars have.

where are you based?

Firstly, hi and welcome to Cliosport.net.

Just for a bit of back ground, ive owned a Mk1 V6 for over 2 1/2 years. I now own the Mk2 version. So i would say that my opinion counts, but it is still just my opinion, lol.

The Mk2 IS a better car, but not as much as the journos would have you believe, if you can afford the extra, buy the Mk2, but dont wory if you cant, the Mk1 is still awesome.

£17500 for a car that has covered 13,000 miles is a little high, my Mk1 was sold through a dealer for £17k, it had 10,000 on the clock and that was 5 months ago.

Other stuff to look out for on the Mk1 other than that, that has already been said are:

the brake fluid reservoir leaks out of the cap if the car has been driven hard constantly (i.e. track dayd). Potentially this isnt a problem, just makes a mess, but if it gets onto the under bonnet plastic bin, it will rot the plastic, these are £280 + vat to replace. Renault had to replace three for me on my Mk1.

The wire mesh on the side air intakes can work thier way loose, not sure of the cost of replacements but not a difficult job to sort out. I had mine replaced under warranty.

The front rubber splitter is fragile, if it gets caught it usually gets ripped off, and yes youve guessed it, theyre not cheap to replace either, about £110 + vat. But ive got a brand new one for sale if you find a car without one and require a replacemant;).

Hope all the above is useful, any questions PM me, happy shopping, Steve.

steveV6,

i know what you mean about that rubber strip at the bottom. mine clipped a speed hump and as a result, cracked the bottom of the bumper (in getting repaired today at my cost).

im intending to leave the black rubber strip off now, as they are £117 from renault.

how much do you want for your spare one?
