Help needed please on Dephaser!!

Hello All,

I have recently bought a 172 cup a very nice one at that and a well cared for example, however it has had the cam belt and pulleys changed only about 2k miles ago in which I have the receipts for.

The dephaser wasn't changed and I am suspicious its making a small noise on tick over (Nothing too drastic at this stage but I am confident it is the dephaser that is making the noise) Like I said its nothing crazy like a diesel engine lol but I think its the start of it going fully in the near future.

My question is - If I take my car to a specialist can the dephaser alone be changed or would it all need re doing?

What is the cost of a dephaser pulley change??

I'd steer well clear of anyone who reuses a cambelt.

I charge £500 inc dephaser for a 172 cup.

A new Dephaser is about £150 on its own. Best price is direct from Renault. I got mine for £109 I think, but the price changes often.

However you'd have to do the cambelt change again also. Think this is around £400 from a reputable specialist for a car without air con.

Thank you both, so do I need to get it done then do you think at this stage? Or should I wait until it really started to become an issue? Also I live in Rotherham South Yorkshire - Any sugestions on who could carry the work out without travelling crazy distances - I'M not stupid though so I would travel to some one that knows what they are working with and not risk a cowboy doing the work.

Welcome mate, become a member when you get chance only £12 per year and will pay for itself in to time. You could then see all the marketplace and all the Traders sections, the specialists all have their prices for cambelt change etc and locations in there

You've got MicKPM at Diamond down the M1 in Nottingham or DDC in Doncaster
