Help needed!

Can somebody please help save my 182 cup that i've only had for 4 months.

I was driving to work on Wednesday and after stopping at a junction when i tried to pull away in 1st i had nothing, no drive just a horrible metal on metal grinding noise that happened in all gears. After recovering the car to a local garage i was told that i had suspected gearbox or clutch failure and to replace the gearbox inc labour it would be approx £1000 and to replace the clutch it would be approx £500 inc labour. They also said they couldn't tell me which it would be until they stripped the gearbox out to have a proper look at it.

After posting my heartbreak on Facebook an old friend of mine who has a 182 too told me i was being mugged off and after telling him the symptoms i have been told that my problem is much more likely to be stripped splines on the driveshaft. So my reason for posting on here is to find a garage local to me in Brighton that specialises in Renaultsport Clio's etc and can fix my car asap. I'm willing to replace the whole drive shaft if its worth it. Failing that anyone that knows what they're doing who fancies earning a few quid.

I'm desperate to save this car as i really love it and i've already spent £200 on it within 4 months to replace the coil pack. If i can fix it this time round for around £100 i'll be well happy and def won't be going back to that garage again! (A Harris & Sons in Brighton in case you're wondering)

Get the car safely on axel stands and take a look at the driveshafts first

Or if its the clutch GSF have a 43% off sale this weekend. Use sept43 code and buy a valeo clutch kit which is the same as the renault stock and decent.

If its the gearbox a second hand one off here is £150-200 approx

@NorthloopCup might be able to help with gearbox info? Clutch is around £65 from gsf with said discount code, its they're premium option, not listed as valeo but it is. I was quoted £200 to fit mine with new oil, nearly half your quote. Local garage is not the place to go... Don't give up, it can be fixed. Hopefully its just a clutch disintegrated itself of a shaft gone. Both fixable at way less than the prices you've been given.

First things first call the garage and tell them to leave the car alone and do nothing further. Next do some ringing around the local area for quotes to have it looked at stating it could be the driveshafts or worst case gearbox and how much to diagnos each scenario and labour costs to fix.

£1500 is scandalous, if worst case scenario and is the box then the rebuild kit is around £300 so you just want the quote for the labour to rebuild and fit, you might as well throw a new clutch in whislt you're at it and i would expect to pay between £300-400 for the total labour.
