help please everyone with my mk2 172

hi there everyone i have jut picked up my 51 plate 172 love it to bits however i need everyone advice when i test drove the car it had a very bad starting problem all the lights came on and lots of smoke came out the back....the garage had it looked at before i picked up and they fitted a brand new battery this seems to have cured the problem however when i first turn ignition in the morning all the dash lights do there checking thing then when i go to start car no problems but immeadiately the serv and the abs light and stop light come on for about a second and then go out again...is this normal? plus the lights seem dim on the dash and the windows dont go up and down very fast but i used to own a megane brand new so i dont know again if this is normal. the engine seems to pur lovely with no problems the engine temp remaine normal. when i put my foot down at low revs the car seems to judder very very slightly then the power kicks in...ARE ALL OF THE ABOVE RELATED!!!! many thanks for all your help anybody advise would be greatly appreciated thanks again!!!!!

Strange one....get it back to the dealer if i were you mate. In mine, about 6 weeks ago i had the serv light come on, this indicates that a fault with the engine has been logged in the ECU. Now at low rev's (2000rpm or less) in most gears i.e when cruising at 30 in 3rd or 4th say, the car is a little juddery, also at idol. I've got my car booked in at the end of the month for a cambelt plus diagnostics on the engine, i think mine just needs tuning because every where else its fine. Anyway enough of my probs....i'd deffo get yours into the dealer for an inspection, they'll just plug in to a computer and car will tell 'em whats wrong.

The serv and abs lights do come on for a second, only if they stayed on should you be worried. Have you checked to see if the dash light dimmer control is set on low?

Do you have a handbook for it?

hi guys thanks for your replies the lights do not stay on they go out straight away its just they all go out at first and then when you fire car up the lights mentioned above come on but only for a sec and go out again i thought if anthign was really wrong they would stay on wouldnt they? i have the full service book it flew through mot it has had 3 owners plus myself and it has been serviced every single year (only just done 2,000 miles ago as well) i have put the dimmer switch to its top setting but thanks mate for that it is amazing some times how silly little things can get past some people he he he!!! how much does it cost for a computer check at reno? plus anything i can do to flush the crap out that might be in there wthout a full tune...i am using supermarket fuel as well is this a load of crap also??? cheers again guys and gals

sorry forgot to mention also my remote locking does not work until your very xclose to the car could this be it just needs a new battery in the key?? if so how much are these little buggers thanks again

Clidge i also find the electric windows slow in my clio.
As for the fuel i use either Optimax or Tesco 99, i find that the car runs better on these fuels

£65 to have the computer plugged in, which is CRIMINAL

if you're in the south try Rentech in Portsmouth (i think)
or k-tec in dorset

they'll both do a computer check cheaper than renault i would assume

nowt wrong with supermarket fuel

thanks guys i am really worried this seemed like a really nice clean car but i worried bought a t~~t mobile!!! i put some redex carb cleaner at the last fill up this morning could that be the problem i thought it would clean some crap out!!!! thanks again do you think it needs a new altenator or something that is why lights are dim windows are slow and the remote does not work!!!

guys i have put enough redex in for a full tank even though i only had 3/4 in could this be the spluttering problem!!! will this go eventually thanks
